i hope your family is safe too, bean! my friends and family are all without power, but johnny has a generator at their lodge in bourne. he and ginny are slowly gathering everyone there. my brother is there, and my 2 cousins, as well as the majority of our friends. sue& gale are staying at the hospital in wareham, since they are desperate for staff right now. as far as i can tell, everyone and their pets are safe. so far. the damage is unbelievable... and will continue, like bean said, there are 3 more major high tides at least..7 people dead that they know of, including the guy who was trying to save the breakers mansion in rhode island..

more or less, lol! here in kansas it's fairly warm and hugely windy, but that's just..kansas. my onions and garlic in the yard is greening up nicely, even with the drought conditions. that's why i keep it, grass isn't doing so hot right now. tornado season officially starts on the 6th, so the sirens will sound statewide. bean is probably quite happy right now, she's a couple of hours east of brad(he's in saint pete) and he says it's been pretty nice, although too cool for him to hit the beach much. up north they're still in for a good month of craziness at least. and it was snowing just outside of las vegas yesterday!

I have a cousin on Nantucket. I hope she’s ok. She hasn’t mentioned it on fb so I suppose she is.

it's likely she has no power or cell signal. but just so you know, the islanders are actually better at dealing with stuff like this than the mainlanders. it hasn't been that many years since it was a given that you were on the island from november to april, period. i'll see if queenie knows anything though, she has family there too.

us being from the same state was one of the first real chats we had, way back when, and i always keep them in mind when i worry about my own people. i'm sure they're okay, and power is coming back faster than expected, yay! but they've got 2 more rounds to go, nor'easters predicted for wednesday and again next monday. at least they have some time to get restocked, and some cleanup done before it hits. dear brother had to go home, since he had to be at the plantation today to assess damages,he should have power back tomorrow. he has a gas stove and i told him to get some kerosene lamps, those babies put out some heat! he lives in a "tiny house", so he'll be okay. kay, queenie says there's much less damage on the island than the mainland, most of the worst wind kind of swept ABOVE them . they should be back to full power by this evening.

I’m starting to wonder if the problem isn’t actually with gun possession. The more I read over on DH the more I’m lead to believe it’s the siege mentality of (hopefully not most) Americans that’s the problem. This idea that everyone is out to get them and no one except themselves can do anything about it. Better get a gun! Maybe we live in a more open society here in Australia and that’s why we can’t understand that thinking?

The DH is a measure of American mentality like the Joz crowd is a measure of Australian mentality.
Every society has their share of McNuggets, but they shouldn't be seen as a majority.

Well said Dalt. I'd be terrified to live in America if I thought everyone was like the politics mob.

Well said Dalt. I'd be terrified to live in America if I thought everyone was like the politics mob. The, "Politics mob" aren't scary. A few, afraid of change has beens, bitching about how much better the, "Good ol' days" were... I think the, "politics mob" type are a good thing. They encourage the moderates to fight for change.

I see the White House revolving door has claimed another victim! The list of possible replacements must be shrinking by the minute. I can't imagine anyone in their right mind would consider taking a job there a good career move.

according to trump,EVERYBODY wants to work at the white house. gee, i guess that explains why 25+ of his hand picked staff have resigned or been fired in just over a year. and conservatives say he's such a great businessman...what a joke.

he also had to fire his longtime personal aide who has been accused of financial hankypanky... here in wichita alone, over 3000 students participated in the 17 minute walkout. and we are a progun red state. i haven't seen the numbers yet across the country, but i DO know that the students at columbine also participated. even middle schoolers joined in, my friends marnie and heather's children posted pics on FB.

lawdy, incredible, what did they expect? even trained police can't shoot straight half the time, if teachers are allowed to carry, there is going to be a lot more deaths

SO much disdain, so much loathing for everyday, ordinary, real people.
