i didn't even know she still existed (kak , meaning i was unaware she still had a public profile ) but i don't watch TV so there's plenty i miss . talking to my poor mother last night (boothby SA ) she was telling me ''i don't know who to vote for '' '' try labor again'' i suggested ''southcott is long gone , who's the local member now ?'' (i asked despite knowing ) ''he isn't ?'' she said . ''however '' she followed ''i will not be voting for that wretched Palmer fellow , i despise con-men who don't pay employees '' and i remembered then who influenced my thinking on such matters . she might not be 100% but she's still the same person she's always been .

I get the feeling it was a pity job for Kak. Morning tv is never that high quality anyway but the show was semi informative before they started giving out pity jobs to people like Denise Drysdale and Kennerly.

I voted today (ACT) I'm going to be in NSW for the w/e. They need to sharpen their pencils They had 7 staff members to check your name off.. a separate queue for each one.. which didn't work out well if you were in a queue where the voter in front of you took a long time to get sorted. I was through long before people in the queues besides me (who were there before me). Some of the check your name off people talked too much and the one I got the opposite, I felt like I was being grilled for a crime. They had paper rolls last time? This time details on a computer.. and they asked whats your suburb, whats your street name. They also asked everyone who came in if they were from NSW.....

I heard on tonight's news that the media blackout starts tonight... I'm so over it.. especially Clive Palmer... his latest ad says he's going to increase the pension by $150

Unfortunately some people will believe him deb. They’ll probably be the same people who have been cluttering up my Facebook with c+ps about Labor introducing inheritance taxes.

Figlet, i don't like the computer check now, because i can't see to verify.......there is another woman in this electorate who has the same 3 names as i do, with only one letter different, so i have always made sure that the person checked off my name
my daughter voted early at the city hall and the person floating around to answer questions about the process did not know how many senate candidates there were...she kept saying "you only need to fill in 12", so she was forced to count them......not good enough, she should have known

when I do my senate vote. I'm going to number 12 under the line
I don't like the deal between UAP and the Libs.. some Libs have even been caught handing out UAP and ON how to vote cards... their plan is to have a majority in the senate between them, so they can block supply
Kay, you would be able to answer this
do they count the ballot boxes and then start tallying the pre poll votes on Sat. night

So much for t the media blackout - this morning's 'West Australian' was till choc-a-bloc with political ads.
And another thought - it' s entirely possible that over here in the West we'll know which party's won government even before our polling booths close.

I think the media blackout comes in at midnight tonight (Thursday). Newspapers are covered by the ban but not internet or social media. There was an article about it on the ABC news site in the last few days.
We don't have anything to do with pre-poll or postal votes deb. The polling place staff just sort and count ballot papers from their booth on the day. That's more than enough to keep us there for usually about 3 hours after close. I believe the pre and post papers go to the AEC office to be counted there next week.

this is what i thought
The blackout takes effect from 12am on Thursday 16 May and ends when polling booths close at 6pm Saturday 18 May. The blackout rules apply to commercial and community television and radio broadcasters but do not include online services and print media.

At least the newspaper ads are relatively easy to ignore.

Even though, I do like a good election, its the political bombardment and bs that makes an election trying so election night is to celebrate the end of all that. I've been getting early morning wake up calls from Cory Bernardi, FGS. Only one more sleep....

Sorry maggie, my mistake. I misread the date. I still think it applies to print media though. The AEC legislation dates from the early 1900s I believe, before we had electronic media. I can’t tell you the last time I looked at a hard copy newspaper though, so I could be just talking through a hole in my head 😂
