while I know that DV is no laughing matter.. this story made me I had to double check it with my husband to make sure I was reading it right Mr Howard stopped a couple fighting while on a morning walk near his Sydney home on Wednesday and then waited with a woman until police arrived. "How great is John Howard?" Mr Morrison said on Sunday when asked about the incident. "It shows the character of the bloke." Following the alleged assault, a 44-year-old woman was charged with breaching an apprehended domestic violence order while a man, 47, was taken to hospital.

About the push for Citizenship ceremonies and Australia Day. Does Morrison want them held only on Australia Day? Normally they're held on Australia Day plus councils have other ceremonies through the year. If so that would mean a large number of people to get through in one day in a lot of areas. "A strict dress code for ceremonies will also be introduced, with Immigration Minister David Coleman set to announce the changes on Sunday." Credit Fairfax I don't think much of that idea either. Ceremonies can be held outside in a park..Australia Day is in one of the hottest months of the year. Ridiculously heavy handed and draconian. I really wish Labor would come out and give a firm commitment to reversing this stupidity when they get in. It’s a very short step from here to brown shirts. I have done the citizenship test and ceremony. I have an Australian passport because of an informed, adult decision I made, not just because I happened to be born here. This stupid knee-jerk action is designed solely to appeal to the St Kilda beach, flag wearing, nazi saluting, red-necks. It makes me really angry that scummo and his mates are forcing people to conform to their idea of what an Australian should look like. Hey Hey, Ho Ho LNP has got to go Hey Hey

Kay, there was an anti-nazi protest march in Melbourne on Saturday. Sad that this had to happen. Disturbing that this had to happen.

so, i'm curious. can your government be shut down like trump has shut ours down? We did have a case where parliament refused supply. the result was the governor General (the Queens representative) sacked the rime Minister and there was a general election, which saw a change of government. It caused a huge furore at the time and debate still goes on over whether it should ever be allowed to happen. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1975_Australian_constitutional_crisisWOW! that governor kerr was a serious badass! but i can see why he resigned and left politics, sometimes doing the right thing is political suicide.

I wasn’t living here then, but wasn’t he just the fall guy for Fraser? That’s my opinion anyway. He was a drunken weak fool who got played.

Howard did the right thing (intervened) and waited with the woman... but it was the woman who was attacking the man and she shouldn't have been there in the first place (breaching a DVO). So Howard was looking after the attacker not the victim?

Fraser was the mastermind. I think a lot of the outrage was not so much that Whitlam got dumped as that an unelected representative of an unelected (and supposedly only titular) head of State had the power to do it. Without funds to run the country, Whitlam would have been forced to call an election anyway and the same result would almost certainly have been obtained democratically rather than arbitrarily.

And isn’t it ironic that things have shifted so much now that Fraser would be seen as a moderate.

he was responsible for a famous shearers' strike, don't know the name or the date, he refused to supply proper sleeping quarters for the shearers, so they walked out, and others on other properties backed them up...it was quite a big issue at the time....bill ludwig was one of the young shearers at his property

pizzle /ˈpɪz(ə)l/ noun ARCHAIC•AUSTRALIAN the penis of an animal, especially a bull, formerly used for flogging people.
