What about that pair accusing some Nationals of trying to force Vikki to have an abortion? They wouldn't name them.. so now suspicion could be on some that weren't involved. Can't see them being happy about that.

I believe Tony Windsor would have won the last election (not the recent by election, the one before) but they changed the electoral boundaries.

Deb, an update on Capt [ret] Jason Scanes. www.pressreader.com/australia/fraser-coast-chronicle/20180607/281509341878528“I left my post outside the minister’s office in good faith that a fair review of my interpreter’s case would occur within three weeks. Having already waited five years, I agreed and asked for the ability to provide additional information to the minister’s department if required. “The minister has not engaged me at all and the department has not requested any additional information from me, nor have they given any consideration to the information and statements from several ranked officers in our defence forces.” Mr Scanes said the minister had chosen to exercise his extraordinary powers under the immigration act to refuse a visa if he believed the applicant failed the “character test”. “I see a shame that the Australian public cannot exercise similar powers regarding a ‘character test’ on our politicians.” Mr Scanes said he resigned as CEO because he felt it would be remiss to remain in the job when he could not give it his full attention as he continued his fight to make Australians aware of the injustice dealt to interpreters because those who judged them could not comprehend cultural differences.

Disappointing but not surprising.
I wonder if the potatoes are still in place. Days ago, potatoes with sad faces and the words "Sack Dutton" were placed outside Dutton's office. I thought it was funny. I thought it was even funnier that no one from his office removed them.

There will continue to be deaths until those in detention are living in safe countries.

Mainstream media and the government are in each other's back pockets. The young man's 12 year old brother made an emotional plea, a couple of months ago, begging for help for his sick mother. He stated that not only did his mum have depression [not the reason for help being requested] but so did his brother. The young boy has a history of self harm and also suffers from depression. His mother and his sister-in-law have been hospitalised because of the death of their loved one. But, hey, its alright because, at least on Manus, the refugees can celebrate "Refugee Week".

www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2018/jun/16/iranian-asylum-seeker-begged-for-help-i-am-suffering-intensely“The thought of suicide doesn’t ever leave me. I am suffering intensely every day,” the former dentistry student wrote in one plea to see a doctor. The 26-year-old Karami died by suicide inside his tent in the RPC3 camp on Nauru on Friday morning. Recently married, he had been held on Nauru, along with his mother and 12-year-old brother, for five years. Karami had a background of torture and trauma. A member of Iran’s Kurdish ethnic minority, which faces systematic persecution in that country, he had been kidnapped as a 10-year-old boy and held for three months, threatened every day he would be killed. Psychiatrists identified him as “being severely traumatised”.

Ava, I guess you are following Behrouz Boochani on Twitter. Did you see his tweet with the notice about a curfew? The refugees have been ordered to not leave the camps after 6pm or the constabulary will be informed.

Behrouz is a longtime friend of mine. I joined twitter when the forced relocation took place late last year because it was quicker and safer for Behrouz and Aziz to post updates there rather than on FB etc. That was a horrible time.
There are always new measures being taken to force the men to either agree to refoulement or die. As long as they disappear, I don't think the government cares what method is used as long as they go. Pretty disgusting.
Behrouz is brilliant and Australia has been denied this man's intelligence and journalistic expertise simply because he legally sought shelter in a country that is supposed to provide shelter. His book gets released on July 31st.

it's pretty disturbing to see our troops operating under the nazi flag
they should've been discharged , not merely cautioned

After watching question time, I would hazard a guess and say that the slogans for the next federal election will contain the words "aspirations" and "arrogant elite".

I so hope the senate doesn't pass the new tax bill this week.. It's ridiculous to lock in a change in 6 years time when we're likely to have a different Govt.
