I’ve been watching with interest the reaction to the language used by police and the media immediately after Eurdyce’s murder. Finally, finally, it seems that the message might be getting through that it’s not women that cause their rape and murder by their actions, it’s men.
I know I bang on about them about them a lot, but MFW’s on fb have been almost incandescent about this.

His father refused to discuss his son's ASD. Plenty of people have ASD but don't go on to rape and murder people.
The CCTV footage indicated that he had stalked her that night. Scary stuff. Another young life cut short by a violent man's actions.
What Lisa Wilkinson said was completely right and brought me to tears.

There will be a vigil at Princes Park on Monday and I believe that others are taking place over the weekend.

funny that nobody blames the victim who has been robbed, or the man who has been punched to death, etc etc, and i bet a man who has been raped is not treated the same........should not have been walking home alone at night etc

this is no surprise, is it Respected Today show commentator Miranda Devine (centre) has criticised feminists who have argued women should not be forced to be careful in public spaces and that its up to male predators to change their behaviour. The argument comes in the wake of the alleged murder and rape of a young comedian Eurydice Dixon as she walked home across Princes Park in inner north Melbourne. Devine said women needed to use 'common sense' when they were by themselves in public to protect themselves. 'It is just prudent common sense to say to young women don't walk across a dark park at night,' Ms Devine told the Today show. 'You have to accept the world as it is, the world is a dangerous place - there are predators around and you need to take precautions.' 'It's completely unrealistic to say that men should change their toxic masculinity.'

she kind of has a point - women should realise by now its not safe to walk alone at night.
a woman should be safe anywhere, any time, but that just isn't reality.

Respected? LOL
Its safe for women to be out alone at night, or during the day, or at home or anywhere by the sounds of it. Its about time that the onus is put on the perpetrators instead of the victims or potential victims.

That's the first thing I thought of. Respected? Never. Sadly this time I do agree with her and I'm not in anyway blaming a girl or woman if they become a victim.

I can totally agree with how we want the place to be, but it's not like that. I often walk through our local park because it's so beautiful and it's a short cut if I want to take a walk to the shops. I would not walk through there at night if I was alone, and most likely not even if I was accompanied. I wish I didn't have to feel like that.
I'm not a fan of Lisa Wilkinson and I'm not sure why channel 10 put her in that show. It's funny how they are giving her all the tug on your heartstrings stories.

Eurydice, Jill Meagher, Masa Vukotic, and countless others have been victims of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. If women are alone, or even in pairs, there is always a risk that they could be attacked whether it be daytime, nighttime, indoors, or, outdoors regardless of what precautions are taken. If a man is intent on harming a woman, he will do so, regardless. The narrative has always been that if women did this instead of that then they wouldn't have been raped or murdered. What it is, is violence against women and this needs to change.
I'm not a fan of Lisa Wilkinsonl, either, but I think that what she said was pretty spot on.

Not safe in daylight either 😟
2016 NSW teacher was killed (raped, murdered, burnt and dumped in the countryside) in the day time at her school, a week before her wedding.
She had gone in to the school to do some work in the weekend. The young guy that killed her was a caretaker there. He wasn't rostered on to be there that day.
His barrister "says her client should not be given a life sentence because he suffered from autism spectrum disorder, his young age and he pleaded guilty....."
He has no prospect of release.
Her parents are suing the NSW Government.

Over 20,000 people at the Princes Park vigil with more continuing to arrive.
The Brunswick/Carlton area was old stomping ground. I have relatives and friends who live there and many of them are attending the vigil.

Add talking to birds to the list of things women shouldn't do.
"Price, 31, told police he had been thinking about stabbing someone for a while and he wanted to target a rich area to amplify his message, the Victorian supreme court heard.
Sean Price appears in court over murder of Masa Vukotic in Melbourne Price told police Vukotic was dressed up “like a yuppie” when he saw her in a Doncaster park on 17 March and he thought he just had to kill her, the prosecutor, Michele Williams QC, told the court.
“She started talking to a bird like fucking Snow White,” he said to police after his arrest, Williams told the court. “This one just ended up being the one.”
The 17-year-old student pleaded with him not to hurt her, the court heard. Price stabbed her 49 times. He has pleaded guilty to the murder.
He “just hated society” and had been “getting this urge for a while”, Price told police after his arrest, Williams said.
Price also admitted charges of robbery, rape and attempted theft in the hours after the killing. He was under a supervision order when he went on his two-day rampage, the court heard.
The day before his attack on Vukotic, Price’s corrections officer noted his behaviour was unusual, Williams said.
He was hostile, agitated, staring intently and did not complete his appointment with his corrections officer on 16 March.
It had previously been noted that Price was paranoid, misogynistic, possibly becoming aggressive and “speaking about women”, Williams said.
In mid-February a corrections officer noted the high-risk client’s behaviour was “steadily deteriorating”."

i can't be bothered getting more exact figures, but it has always been so that young men are more likely to be assaulted than young women.........often those men are out at night spots in the early hours of the morning.........i have never seen men being advised to go home early, carry a phone, etc etc.....on the contrary, is is often said that "they were just out enjoying themselves as young men do"
In 2009–10, males also experienced a higher rate of assault victimisation compared with females. Males were victimised at a rate of 837 per 100,000 compared with 675 per 100,000 for females (AIC 2011). Regardless, assault victimisation was highest for both genders in the 15 to 24 year age group (1,760 per 100,000 for males and 1,559 per 100,000 for females; AIC 2011). However, the statistics indicate some differences in the profiles of male and female victims of assault. For example, males are more likely to be assaulted by a peer or a stranger, while women are more likely to be victimised by a family member in a domestic violence situation (AIC 2011).
