I thought I had a math thread for Egulch, but I can’t find it now.
So part 2.
My car gets 41 mpg. Gas is 2.79 per gallon.
If I purchase this gas “additive” for $9, I can get 44 mpg.
My tank holds 16 gallons.
Should I purchase the additive/gas miles booster?

In my scrappy math….
I think 3 miles more per 16 gallons is an extra almost maybe 50-55 miles extra. Which is about 1.5 gallons in gas which is about a 5 dollars savings.
So no… don’t spend $9.
I think? 🤷♀️🤔

The price for a tank of gas at $2.79 a gallon is $44.64 for 16 gallons. That means it costs you 6.8

The price for a tank of gas at $2.79 a gallon is $44.64 for 16 gallons which will get you 656 miles. That means it costs you 6.8¢ per mile to drive. The price for a tank of gas with additive, is $53.64 for the same 16 gallons but will get you 752 miles So the price it costs you per mile to drive is 7.1¢ per mile You're better off without the additive.

Ok Susan, This is a hard question to ask cuz I’m afraid of the answer.
I filed a car insurance claim September 2016 when I hit a deer. I paid the $500 deductible. My monthly payments have been 165 since. 165 x 12 = 1980 I hit a deer again on Easter this year. 9/2016 to 4/2023= 6 years, 7 months.
Ok so I’m lost on math already. But 6.5 x 1980 is 12,000 ish I think.
So basically, I paid $12,000 for insurance and when I filed a claim again this year I had to pay the $500 deductible to fix $4000 on my car. Because I was making car payments I was required to have comprehensive and collision. Now that my car is almost paid off, does it not make more sense to not have the comprehensive and collision? Oh and insurance went up again because “weather related claims” made premiums go up for everyone.
It feels like I could put that money away every month to save up for the next Deer collision repair. But what if it happens sooner than eight years from now? Ugh.
Don’t even get me started on how much I’ve been paying on car insurance since I first started driving and how few claims I have made. I’m thinking I would have about $50,000 right now if I never paid for insurance.
But at the same time, I hear my dads nagging voice inside of my head.

Insurance is a necessary evil! Damned if you do and damned if you don't!
In the last 60 years, I think we have made maybe 8 claims after which our cost went up. Claims were for deer, a hail storm, and a fire. I often think about the money we could have saved through the years.

I nearly did the same with Baloo after Buzz costs us thousands at the vet. Apart from his vaccinations and getting the snip he never went to the vet. Never sick in his life until the end. I have to go back when I've typed anything to stick all the s's in. Its the x and s now

We put $30 a week in Bonnie account so far she has only had her normal
injections and Vet checks. There are so many things they don't cover, also
the older they are the less they cover and the dearer the cover.

That answer really doesn't have much to do with whether you should drop your collision and comprehensive. What's important to know is the approximate bluebook value of your car. In many cases, if the value isn't that high and you have another accident, your insurance company would total your car, and probably give you a small amount, minus your deductible. You still have to carry liability insurance, no matter what. Being that I'm not in the insurance business, I don't know the actual numbers, but I would think there is a chart or table out there, that gives the tables as to when it behooves you to drop the collision and comprehensive insurance. I want to say it's sometime after a car is 7-8 years old and the replacement value is low.
