I’m a YES
We’ll probably vote tomorrow because I’ve got a lot on on Saturday and I don’t want to run out of time

A huge boost for the YES campaign. Clive Palmer's million dollar ad blitz to vote NO has started

I thought it would be a forgone conclusion that it would be an overwhelming YES.
It doesn't appear to be so, which is surprising.

because the concept has too many variables that once passed the government can alter on a whim.
if it was clear concise and set in stone my vote would have been yes.

The constitution should not have specifics set in stone though. Think of the American second amendment and the problems that has caused simply because it’s language is of the 1700s trying to operate in current times. The constitution is by design a broad overarching document outlining the country with details decided by legislation under it.

Well one thing Albo took this to the people as an election promise
so, he has honoured that promise.

The Territories votes get counted in the National Majority but not towards any of the state counts ☹️
Currently 63.8% Yes & 36% No. (ACT)

I’m sad but not surprised 😢 joono when does your tv coverage begin? I was wondering last night if you have a media black out until 6pm AWST or can you see what is happening from 3 hours before your voting closes? When the result was called so early I was thinking there would be people over your way who haven’t even voted yet. That must feel weird?

That happens all the time Kay.
All course WA has a say but overall the big result is already known before our voting ends during a federal election. In a referendum though, we might as well not bother.

i hope they rethink this proposal, rework it, reword it in a clear concise way so everyone can feel confident it will do what it should do and put it up for voting again

With respect pepe I think that’s rather naive. Grassroots First Nations people and organisations will regroup and continue to work towards their goals but I think there will be very little political appetite to continue on this path for a very long time.
I hope I’m wrong but I suspect I’m not

I'm not going to comment on the result (though, for the record, I voted yes) But I find it a bit ironic that this referendum failed due to a perceived lack of detail in the wording, while the one in 1999 on whether to establish a republic failed due to too much detail (the wording specified that the president should be chosen by parliament - a method rejected by many pro-republicans)

A perceived lack of detail is pretty crazy when the question was, Do you think Aboriginal and Torres straight islanders should have a voice to parliament? The same way government donors do and mining groups do.

Best tweet I read today.
Ross #VoteYES
I'm thinking the next time #Dutton rises to speak in parliament, he should be greeted with "we move the honourable member not be heard." Let him experience having no voice. #auspol #spud #liesandmorelies

I read an interesting article yesterday in The Guardian about how the constitution itself would not have got up if the arguments put against this years question had been put to it.
I’ll try to find it again
