Jewel is way coool...
she was singing in the bars when I first moved to town, crazy times in this town... like CRAY ZEE!!!... she likky da sechs!!! A LOT!!
Her uncle Art taught all four of my kids music... over the top excellent teacher.
The show?.. dear god it's silly.
You cannot shoot bears for no reason out where they live... their firewood is delivered to them in a 7 cord truck by my friend Matt...
The family has a streak of serious whack... but definitely Alaskans.
At one point, they asked producers if it had gotten just a tad too ridiculous, and if they should tone it down a bit...
No was the answer... amp it up, drama and crazy sells tickets.
so that's what they did.

all reality TV is ridiculous, and geared for fake drama.
Deadliest catch is a classic.
In the day... crab fishing Bering sea was ball to the wall... it opened on a set date.
If it blew 100, it opened, and you HAD to fish, as it was a quota... once caught, season is over... millions at stake.
Deckhands made 100,000 in a week... some made zero, some died.
Kodiak was a big port for crab boats... I'd go to the bar and not buy a drink all night. Guys calling a bar(from ANOTHER bar) and buying a round...
now it's shares... each boat has been awarded a certain amount, based on historical catch, and they go catch them when they want... it blows 100, you stay at port.
We used to wait a month some years in Prince William sound, and Togiak for herring... we'd play cards, and gamble on the first Time bandit with dad Hilstrand. He was a dreamer, and decided he'd build a 110 foot boat... unimaginable... now it's the norm. We fished in 38-42 foot boats... now 58(the limit for a seined) is common.
then fish two one hour openings... and you could make 300,000 in one set.
In a snow storm we watched two spotter planes collide... both pilots dead..
Boat charges up to us and frantically asks if he can use our still alive pilot... his just died...
we just looked at him in disbelief, and drove away.
Kilchers are cool.. but the show is almost all fake...
you can drive to where their homstead is... you can't just shoot brown bears, firewood is easily ordered and delivered... oil back up...for heat, electric...
still pretty cool, but lots of added drama.

How can you watch planes in a snow storm?
I don’t watch reality shows, my sense of humour just doesn’t stretch that far. My husband sometimes has them on, although my heckling usually has him changing the channel, for some peace. The one that really annoys me is pawnstars. Why would you take your classic car, rare guitar, or what ever and sell it to a pawn broker for half it’s value? Put it on craigs list or in an auction house FFS, drives me insane.

I agree and who in the hell in their right minds allows/invites those two jerks (pickers) traveling down the highways into their barns, shops, etc and are happy to let their items go for nothing???

Bottom line, 95% of people just suck at money. What makes it worse is as you mentioned, CL, FB marketplace... so easy... And yet they line up to give their stuff away .25 cents on the dollar...lol Beyond amazing. AND they will pawn something at 20% a month... |

No response...who'd a thought it... JEWEL is a good singer. Just took time to listen to that song... such a beautiful passionate woman! Love her songs. hahahahahaha, that period of time here in Alaska/this town when the cannery still hired a 100 plus vagabonds who camped out on the spit was rather magic! Town here was crazy during summer. So many insane memories. Jewel was going national about that time I arrived, but was still playing in the bars... and there was this up and coming local singer, Hobo Jim... I sang with him a few times. Ridiculous right winger, but wrote some great songs. There were four or five rough and tumble bars in town where these folks would play... and rarely(ok never) did a night end with out a fight, a hook up, a great story, or all of the above... song about a man drowning, body never found. Legend suggested those lost in winter would be found first thunder storm of spring... this guy was found... song was made into a short film, and re recorded four times by various artists. |
