OK all you amateur psychiatrists, analyse this. Mr Penny dreamed last night that someone had a hand round his throat. He sank his teeth into it and woke up in pain to discover he was biting his own finger!

That's weird, but at least it wasn't your hand he was biting.

It's not uncommon to wake up doing an action you were doing in your dream. Laughing, waving, moving your legs as if running. Just last week I woke up to my mouth making raspberries (Bronx cheer).
So Mr Penny biting his own hand makes sense.
The real question is: why was he dreaming he was being choked. Is there something frustrating in his life that he feels he has no control over? Is a problem making him feel smothered and overwhelmed?
That's where his dream leads me.

Wash your mouths out with soap. No, I think all that happened was he had one hand resting on the pillow and managed to press his face into it as he rolled over in his sleep.

That could be a trigger dream.
Like when you start dreaming about a phone ringing, or an ambulance, and then you wake up to hear the phone ringing or an ambulance. I dreamt that the alarm was going off and the alarm was going off.

I had a dream the other night. Everyone was dancing to Wham. Wake me up before you go go. So strange because I could really hear the music even when I woke up.

I dreamt our middle grandson got a plastic dinosaur for his birthday.
It was blue................and also a trumpet.
If you blew into its tail hard enough it turned green.
And if you were really good and blew into it really hard you could turn it yellow.
Hubby was the only one who could turn it yellow.

Penny, did he watch something on tv..like a murder show or something?
I can't watch shows like that before bed, otherwise I have nightmares.
What is really awful is sleep paralysis! I used to get it a lot in my teens and into my 20's.
What happens is- when we go to sleep- it goes body asleep, mind asleep. Sleep paralysis is when your mind wakes up but your body is still asleep. It's really scary. Anyone had that happen?

I hate it Sin. It's most common in teenagers, luckily I've grown out of it.

you're very fortunate. in my case, i spent a couple of years with tests and drugs and more tests, and too much pain, so i took the drugs. and then i found out that ALL of my triggers were allergy related, once i found a doctor who asked the right questions, and listened. so i'm good now!

it was damn scary though..that feeling that ..how do i word it right...i would feel aware, but i couldn't FEEL anything, not even breathing. and i would think..maybe i'm dead, and i don't know it, like the guy in " the outsider", the lovecraft story. i'm very grateful it's gone. i've only felt it twice since, and that was coming out of anesthesia. both times i got pissed off ( in my head) and woke up swinging, lol! i don't THINK i hit anyone but curtis. but who knows? nurses are good people, they probably wouldn't say so.

Migraines are bloody awful. I used to get them quite a bit, but I haven't had one for about a year now.

I can't either. Especially the sort of TV shows which keep you in suspense and have creepy music - e.g. where someone is in a building being chased by a baddie weilding a gun or knife.
Any shows with violence (people getting shot, bashed).. nightmare material.

We do watch a English few crime shows, but most of them are not really graphic enough to give you nightmares. He's been alright since, so hopefully it was just a weird one-off. I don't think it bothered hem that much afterwards - except his finger was a bit sore.
