I was on my way home and going up a steep hill. Two deer darted in front of me and I came to a complete stop.
When it was safe, and I stepped on my gas pedal, it took a bit to get going again. The RPM was at 4, it’s usually 1.5. It felt like I had to press harder on the gas to get it going again. And then it kind of varoomed.
Remember.... I was on a steep hill at full stop.
So is this normal? (For a hill?) Is my transmission going out? Or the fuel pump?
Answer anywhere-~ I will see it 😂🤔.

Automatic. They (factory) make it so you have to take it to the dealership to check the fluid.
At first I thought my mechanic was lazy. But two other places said they cannot check the fluid.

It’s a 2017 Nissan Altima.
I will probably have to go to a bigger city to find a transmission specialist.
I know it’s overdue for a tuneup, too. I remember having a truck with solenoid issues.
It has fancy warnings for just about everything. It tells me if the tire is low or if I need the oil changed, if I need a new oil filter. I would think it would tell me if the transmission was failing. I should Google that or look in that book in the glove compartment.
The Ford F150 truck had 310,000 miles on it and it was 15 years old. Never once had to have anything done other than alternator/battery/tires/brakes. But I never got it a tuneup and I guess something happened with the spark plugs melting to some ignition coil or something like that and towards the end there she had a really hard time going up hills.

hopefully when you do get it to a Nissan dealer (the altima ) the news wont be too bad . i get it when you say that part is hilly , in Kansas there likely wouldn't be a problem . no warning lights is encouraging but not really the final word , my sons car ran completely out of oil .. no OIL or Olio light in his mitsubishi .. i filled it up (nearly 4 litres it took ) and it ran perfectly again . ''it was a bit noisy'' he said.

Last night on the way home, the car was running fine but I smelled smoke.
I have a keen sense of smell. It’s a blessing and a bane.
I pulled over to smell the engine and it smelled just fine. It was in the air around me. When I got home and I watched the news they told me how the West Coast Fires are sending smoke this way.

The Altima has a continuously variable transmission. The engine red line probably 6000 rpm. Getting 4000 rpm in the situation you described sounds normal. If you get higher revs than in the past under normal driving conditions or other changes, then worry.
