and if you’re not keen on watching the video, this is the transcript:
Last summer, bushfires engulfed the country. Businesses, houses, and lives were lost.
Alongside the incredible bravery of firefighters, there was one other service saving lives. The ABC. Research shows 60% of people in bushfire affected areas relied on the ABC to stay safe.
When telecommunications were destroyed by fire, it was ABC local radio that provided life-saving information. In fact, the bushfires added $3 million in emergency broadcasting costs to the ABC’s already stretched budget.
So you’d think any government wanting to keep Australians alive would prioritise this life-saving service.
Not this Government.
Since it came to power, the Coalition has ripped $783 million in funding from the public broadcaster.
Already, countless ABC jobs and services have been slashed. These funding cuts risk Australian lives.
What possible reason could the Government have for putting Australians in such danger?
Meet Rupert Murdoch.
He owns nearly TWO THIRDS of all Australian media – Sky News, Foxtel, The Australian, The Telegraph, Herald Sun, and most other major newspapers. He’s worth $16.5 BILLION.
And Rupert Murdoch HATES the ABC. He sees it as competition to his business.
$16.5 billion is clearly not enough for him. Meanwhile, the Government is very keen to do Murdoch’s bidding.
They understand that if they don’t keep Murdoch happy, he will use his media outlets to attack them.
Malcolm Turnbull and Kevin Rudd stood up to Murdoch. And that didn’t end well for them.
So when Murdoch demands an inquiry into the ABC – one that will give an excuse for even more funding cuts the Coalition Government is keen to oblige.
To make matters worse, this inquiry is happening in secret.
The results will NOT be made public.
What is the Government afraid of? What does Rupert Murdoch not want the Australian public to know?
Every Australian life is precious.
Rupert Murdoch and his Coalition puppets should not be allowed to put these lives at risk. Save the ABC… Save Australian lives!

I kept updated by watching ABC's bushfire coverage... it was brilliant
I also watched a bit of it on skynews, but their coverage was pretty pathetic, they just can't match the ABC no matter how hard they try

What we didn’t really appreciate until we were in the thick of it, was that ABC local radio is essential to keeping people safe and alive. I’ve been banging on about it ever since (sorry) Electricity was the first thing to go on NYE (so no TV coverage), then mobile phones and the internet went along with, of course, landlines because ... no internet (thanks NBN). The only way we were kept informed was by our local NSW Southeast Radio, which we could only hear by sitting in the car [Important Note: always have a portable radio with spare batteries available]. The only time we got a bit annoyed with them was when they kept telling us to check the Fires Near Me app and the BOM site, which of course we couldn’t because ... no internet. Eventually someone must have got through to them because they finally added “if you can”. They had continual information on what each fire was doing, what the weather was likely to do, who should be evacuating and where to (which wasn’t always the obvious place), what to do or where you could go if you had animals. Their role was vital.
The ABC is way more than just 7:30 Report and Peppa Pig. And it’s essential we keep all of it, in spite of what Morrison and Murdoch would have us think.
(One other thing we learned. When purchasing a radio make sure it has proper AM/FM capability, they aren’t that common these days. Digital radio is as useless as your phone or computer when digital communications are lost)
