I know the volunteers do a fantastic job Kay, but I've lost a bit of faith in the AEC over the election signage. Today they forced labor to remove a purple and white sign in Bega , the sign simply said "number every box" ..yet when gladys liu used signs the same colour, that said in Cantonese, tick Liberal 1...they gave us every excuse under the sun for not removing the signs I don’t volunteer, I am employed by the AEC. The volunteer scrutineers aren’t allowed to touch the ballot papers at any time. They can only a observe the process. But I agree, the Liu issue is concerning. The AEC should have shown more backbone on that one.

Anyone else want to jump in here? …… I don’t think things are as extreme here, although I think we are unfortunately heading in that direction. We don’t have voter registration here (I don’t really understand your system) so I don’t think people are quite so hard and fast one “side” or the other. Having said that though there are plenty who will tell you they will vote LNP or Labor or die! Case in point my friend and neighbour who, when you drill down really doesn’t agree with many Liberal policies but will still tell you she will vote LNP because she always has, she likes Tony Abbott (even though she doesn’t live in that electorate these days, and he’s not the member there anymore) and that’s that! (I still love her though 😆) Once you get outside the relatively few people who take a keen interest in politics most will tell you they don’t care because they (pollies) are all useless anyway 😂. I’m probably more interested because I used to live and work in Canberra, where I think by proximity, most people are more invested and interested. I also usually work for the Aust Electoral Commission, who administer polling, at elections. I find that fascinating. (I’m not during this by-election though because of covid) I’m sure other posters have other views deb joono madara ? i cant bear talking about it atm for some reason
