FIRST THINGS FIRST. I AM NOT A GARDENER!!!
We have a slightly raised, east facing, neglected garden bed that I think would make a nice flowering succulent garden. It seems to have good drainage as I have never noticed it water logged even in all the rain we had recently. But I have no idea about the soil quality etc.
I know some of you are keen gardeners and some have a particular interest in succulents (figlet?) So I’m asking for advice. How to prepare the bed, what to plant and how to look after it. Ideally it would be “set and forget” and I’d like to have nice colourful flowers and interesting shapes and textures.
We are in coastal south east NSW.

That sounds lovely.
I grow nearly all my succulents in pots. The garden is heavy clay (bad drainage) with lots of rocks in it. Also the frost would kill most succulents in gardens here in winter. I can keep them undercover in pots.
Is this too far to visit if you’re visiting family near Canberra?
Australian Succulent Farm Mount Fairy, Lake Bathurst NSW, 2580
Website australiansucculentfarm.com
They have a Facebook page and they post.
Being a family business they might be happy to suggest by email what type of succulents you could use.
I haven’t been there, they’ve been in business a couple of years and seem to be doing ok.

Lake Bathurst, that’s out Tarago way isn’t it? They might be a bit too cold climate for my needs but I’ll certainly look at their web site. Thanks

I’m not sure exactly where that place is.. for us we’d go through Bungendore I think.
The garden centres, Bunnings in ACT and that place at Mt Fairy still seem to sell succulents that are more suitable for warmer climates...for ACT people we just have to protect them in winter.
