Here we go again.
I have no problem with changing it to a day that celebrates Australia as we know it now and not one that offends the original Australians. I'd like it to be in January (close to new year when we are all winding down and it has to be hot thirsty weather.
I'd like everyone to be happy about it and accept that it is still offensive to some aboriginal people.

I agree joono. I don’t get why some people can’t seem to understand that a day commemorating the time when their world changed irrevocably for the worst isn’t the best time for a party. Have a celebration of Australia for sure, just not on 26 January.
And as for all this reverence for the day from scummo, - that’s just dumb, and decidedl unAustralian I reckon.

www.welcometocountry.org/thousands-expected-for-anzac-style-dawn-service-on-jan-26/?fbclid=IwAR29S6-vmX0BrpPzCfN2qND21mY1bYoQo-iTTA0dNyG71tirL8YQBMU5uGoHistory will be made on January 26 this year after former Indigenous MP, Lidia Thorpe, called for a public dawn service to be held on Invasion Day. The remembrance service will be held in Naarm (Melbourne) at Kings Domain Resting Place at 5:30 am. Thousands are expected to become part of history and attend the event. Thorpe says the service is to commemorate Sovereign First Peoples who fought in the frontier wars and those who died in widespread massacres that occurred across Australia during colonisation which began on January 26, 1788. The service is a respectful way of reminding everyone in Australia that January 26 cannot continue to be seen as a day of celebration. As mentioned in the event banner, the dawn service is held in solidarity with the Invasion Day Rally which starts at 10:30am outside of the Victorian Parliament. This rally which has been growing towards 100,000 strong in recent years, is organised by the Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance.

Good for them! I'm all for love of country but not really not into 'National Days' They tend to bring out the jingoists and 'jelly bellied flag flappers' We've never had a National Day in England and seem to have managed pretty well without one.

That's great about the dawn service.
It's Invasion Day to me. I never celebrate Australia Day, it's not inclusive.
