It seems really strange that the police haven't been able to gather enough evidence before now. FFS, the girlfriend moved in straight away when his wife went missing.

Looks like he's had 36 years of freedom he shouldn't have had.
Must be so devastating in these cases for the children.. Mum went missing, never found. Dad brings the children up.. then they find out years/decades later that Dad killed their Mum.

The really sad thing is one of his daughters - who was only 2 when her mum 'disappeared', is utterly convinced that her father is innocent, while the other, who was 4, never believed her mum would just go off and leave them and never show up again. The sisters have managed to remain friends but the younger one is estranged from the rest of her mother's family.

How many times did that little four year old cry herself to sleep. I hope that tortured him then and still does.

The mother had a very supportive family by the sound of it.. if she wasn't coping they'd be the first ones she'd turn too..not just walk off, imo.

dawson's in the slammer until tomorrow at least. legal rep. is goin' to apply for bail. client's goin' to plead not guilty.
reckon's the client won't be gettin' a fair trial, because of the media programme, and all negative publicity.

I read somewhere that his lawyer would probably request a 'judge only' trial.

I've seen a few cases (alleged murder by spouse/boyfriend/girlfriend) where that's been claimed but they still had trial with a jury.

There was something on the news last night about how many millions of times the Teachers Pet podcast had been downloaded and therefore how difficult it would be to find an unbiased jury.

I think that because we live in a digital world with access to just about anything at our fingertips, the legal system needs to adjust. People can still be objective and unbiased even when they have read all about the alleged crime. Except for me. I'd say guilty straight away and that would be that unless something extraordinary occurs.
Poor kids. What sort of person does that? The jerk deserves to be in jail for the rest of his life and I am glad that bail was refused..

How could anyone look their own children in the eye (for decades) after murderering their mother (and create lie upon lie to cover their own butt)??
Simon Gittany ( Trial Sydney 2013, threw his fiancee off a 15th floor balcony) had a trial by judge alone. He was found guilt of murder. No 'missing body' though. He had a new (over the top girlfriend) by the time the trial was held.

Greg Walsh (Lawsons lawyer) says some of the reporting on his client, who has been charged with murder, is "coming from an ideological perspective that he must be guilty."
There has been significant public interest in the disappearance of Mrs Dawson almost 37 years ago since The Australian newspaper launched its popular true-crime podcast The Teacher's Pet.
Mr Walsh, who said he has never listened to podcast, claimed it could impact his client's right to a fair trial.
"One of the things that concerns me is that this man is entitled to the presumption of innocence and he should be afforded that fundamental right," he said

briefly heard this at traffic lights, from unconfirmed radio chatter, comin' from the vehicle next to me.
dawson family lawyer tryin' to suggest connection of dawson disappearance to milat. reckon , m'self, red herring. lynnette dawson did not drive a vehicle. implausible that she would be in a location to cross paths with that dubious character.
chris dawson's got a brother, peter. peter dawson's mother in law went missin' also. got no other info. on that, at this time.
cheers.

Rebel, there's been a bit about that in the news. They're just trying to push the same story.. that she was alive and walked out. .. after that she may have started a new life somewhere else or was murdered by a random person.
Dec 7
Outside the court today, Mr Dawson’s lawyer Greg Walsh told reporters he was aware of at least one other case when a mother went missing and was living a new life.
The case he was referring to was actually a member of Mr Dawson’s extended family - in a bizarre twist, the former mother-in-law of his brother Peter Dawson walked out on her three children in Sydney 60 years ago.
The woman secretly moved to New Zealand and remarried and died in 2002.

I think they are clutching at straws with the Milat connection and other supposed sightings. Someone (who is now conveniently dead) apparently claimed to have seen her shopping somewhere, and someone else claimed she was spotted in the crowd at an Antiques Roadshow.

First, Dawson said that she ran away to join a religious cult and now she was murdered by Milat. Next it'll be that she was abducted by aliens.

"During a bail hearing at Central Local Court, the former Newton Jets player sobbed and shook his head at times while appearing on screen from Silverwater Prison.
Crown prosecutor Craig Everson told the court that during a counselling session, Mr Dawson told Ms Dawson, "if this doesn't work, I'll get rid of you".
"The accused approached another person, a man who had criminal connections, about how he'd go about getting rid of his ex-wife," Mr Everson said.
Mr Dawson will remain behind bars until at least Monday, when the court will decide whether he is granted bail."
