Judith Durham has some alternate lyrics Attachment Deleted1. Australia, celebrate as one, with peace and harmony. Our precious water, soil and sun, grant life for you and me. Our land abounds in nature's gifts to love, respect and share, And honouring the Dreaming, advance Australia fair. With joyful hearts then let us sing, advance Australia fair. 2. Australia, let us stand as one, upon this sacred land. A new day dawns, we're moving on to trust and understand. Combine our ancient history and cultures everywhere, To bond together for all time, advance Australia fair. With joyful hearts then let us sing, advance Australia fair. 3. Australia, let us strive as one, to work with willing hands. Our Southern Cross will guide us on, as friends with other lands. While we embrace tomorrow's world with courage, truth and care, And all our actions prove the words, advance Australia fair, With joyful hearts then let us sing, advance Australia fair. CODA And when this special land of ours is in our children's care, From shore to shore forever more, advance Australia fair. With joyful hearts then let us sing, advance . . . Australia . . . fair. i think she is a precocious little brat who has been coached by her parents to be defiant over a contrived selective outrage.

She may well be precocious but she’s makes a good point. It is a song for white Australia only.

My first reaction was, she’s got a point, good on her. That lasted all of 3 minutes.
Australia, as it stands now, is a very young country. Her objection may have carried more weight some years ago but I believe the indigineous people are now recognised in the constitution. Elders, past and present, are acknowledged as traditional owners at most events.
I think she she’s a brat. Sometimes we have to do things that we do not agree with.
I may also have missed the point, as I only heard her object to the we are young and free line.

I feel her parents should be encouraging her to live in this world as a 9 year old rather than one taking on the woes of the world at her age. I don't think anything good for her can come from the stance she has taken, whether her personal thoughts are right or wrong.
She is alienating herself from some of her peers at a time when she should be learning about interacting and socialising with them. Time for the angst when she matures.
We need to let our children be children and I believe she is being influenced by her parents, either intentionally or unintentionally.

I won’t pretend this didn’t affect my reaction
“Here we have a kid whose been brainwashed and I tell you what, I’d give her a kick up the backside,” the One Nation leader (Pauline Hanson) said.

have a look at the how she is presented in the photos - really does anyone think her parents are doing her any favours by encouraging or allowing that attitude?
if i actually though that at 9 years old she really understood what she is taking a stance against i would applaud her but the words she objects to don't represent what she is claiming to object to and these are not the words of a regular nine year old who has not been coached and treated like a mini adult by her parents seeking 15 minutes of fame
"I felt like they were trying to take my power away and that made me feel a bit upset because everything that I fight for is for equality and for equal power for everyone," Harper said.
The school has also given her the option of leaving the assembly area if she doesn't want to stand but she her parents would prefer to cause a fuss and stand in the limelight

I think she's a good kid and her heart is in the right place, but she and her father were on the Project last night and she looked like a puppet with her dad's hand on her back the whole time.
It's good if they want to discuss these things as a family, but stop exploiting your child fgs.
Pauline Hanson, disgusting as usual.

For the Indigenous people to be recognised in the constitution , a referendum would need to take place.
Some kids come from politically and socially active families. They are included, rightly or wrongly, from an early age. Good on her for being a rebel and following her beliefs. Yes, she is young, has a vocabulary beyond her years but there is nothing wrong with being thoughtful and taking a stand against what she believes is wrong.
The national anthem is questionable and I wish that it would be changed to something more inclusive. I wouldn't stand up for it nor sing it, either, because at this point in time, I feel no pride in what my country has become.

I have mixed feelings about this. I've never really been into flag waving and anthem singing anyway. But I think there are better ways a nine year old could be supporting Indigenous rights than making herself a public target for people like Pauline Hanson.
