On Four Corners on channel 2 tonight the show was horrific. I love horses but have no interest in racing except for the Melbourne Cup but I'll have to rethink that.
What is done to failed racers and even one beautiful mare that had won $100,000 and then left to starve to death and others that are sold to abattoirs for pet food makes me rethink the whole industry.
Gerry Harvey's horse was left out in a paddock and rescued before it starved.Now they are tongue tying and basically torturing horses when they are racing to make sure they race at their fastest.

i have never been in a sweep, not even here where no money changes hands (or does it?) a long time ago i babysat for a minor jockey, no pun intended, they are all minor, he asked me if i wanted to know one of the winners for the next day
also babysat for a well known brisbane jockey, he had a beautiful landscaped garden, all done by hand, keeps the weight down and babysat for an interstate trainer in a motel, they came back, tired and emotional, the horse had won....he paid me the correct amount owing, but as i was leaving, he kept stuffing money into my bag....i didn't object |

Horse racing is cruel.
Most of them don't make the grade and end up as dog food.
I've never bet on a horse, watching them get the shit whipped out of them breaks my heart.

i could have sworn i posted on this already - spooky...
its no secret i think the horse racing industry should be abolished.
i have been told repeatedly that those horses lead a wonderful life and are treated like royalty etc etc but for every shiny coated well fed horse we see at that track there are many more not so fortunate - and even those at the track aren't all that fortunate really - having to run til their lungs bleed and getting whipped when they tire out

I hate dog racing too.
I hate circuses with animals. Never been to a circus.
I hate testing on animals.

I didn't watch 4 corners but I've seen the tounge tying.. I ask myself nearly every day how us human beings can be so cruel to animals

considering the fact that we've all witnesses how cruel some humans can be to each other, it doesn't surprise me how cruel they can be to animals...it sucks. ALOT.
