Those drip glazes are what they're famous for (those potters). I don't think anyone else has been able to master them since

Yes, the glaze in that vase is different..very nice.
I saw a nice vase in local Vinnies shop (in the glass cabinet) for $30 the other day. No makers name on the tag. Could have been West German pottery.

I've never seen that "grimwades" before It must be a rare one it's much like Royal Winton lustre deb , winton being a grimwades owned brand . the platypus has a clear transfer with ''Darbyshire Ware'' in black (they are usually missing ) i remember them peaking at $750 but now it's about $175-250 ish

anything Australian.. like the platypus Madara found would be really rare, as so few of them were made

This is the antique one Deb. It is in a real state. I tried to clean it up but I was just making it worse and a lot of the beads are missing but I can't bring myself to chuck it out. It's about 6-1/2 inches by 5-1/2 inches.

This is a little one I made myself. Not so heavily beaded. I used the frame from an old Oroton mesh purse that was beyond repair that I found in an op shop. In hindsight, I wish I had left off the beading at the bottom. I was getting a bit carried away with myself.

Joono I especially love the one you made and I love the beading at the bottom, because that's how they made the old ones.. you're so clever! I wouldn't even think about tryng to do that

my photos aren't great because I took them tonight... the one in the middle was given to me by one of my friends, it was given to her by a family member and it's from the 1920's.. the clasp is bakelite
the other 2 I think are older

No, I've never used them. I didn't line them either which I would probably have to do if I wanted to use them but I'm seriously hopeless at sewing.

I wouldn't even think about tryng to do that i agree, the truly vintage ones all have that bottom beading. both are beautiful! i wish you were closer, joono, mrs.hewitt could refurbish the first one for you.

deb, the one in the singular picture, with the v shaped beading at the bottom, is " gothic victorian", i'd place it being made between 1880-1900. i've seen one very similar at mrs.hewitt's and that's how it's marked.

thanks Sin... I thought it would've been made around then
no idea where that middle one was made. It was handed down to her by someone in her family
Joono is very clever with making teeny tiny things

WHERE it was made? germany, i think, because of the leaves on the bakelite handle.

I think it's a celluloid purse frame but I'm not sure if that's the same things as bakelite. I can't find one quite like yours Deb but there are some similar in style from around 1900 - 1920. I'd really love to know.
When I was holding my old one yesterday it suddenly struck me that someone from years gone by had used it.

joono, is the frame very heavy for it's size? if it seems quite heavy, it's probably bakelite, celluloid is much lighter and more brittle. another test you can do is take your thumb and rub it on the frame for about 30 seconds until it feels warm. if it smells sweet while hot, it's bakelite. if it smells like camphor, it's cellulite. i learned alot from the joolies on ebay about this stuff so i could figure out what my various vintage brooches are made of, and date them. that info on testing works for anything, not just jewelry or accessories.
