I googled it and it's an Aynsley plate from the 1940's handpainted by J.A Bailey
on looking around it seems they are worth quite a bit of money, which I had no idea
I often see similar cups and saucers around

Very slim pickings here, deb.
Op Shops are asking publicly for more donations..especially for bric a brac, home decor items.
Some have glass cabinets to put the nice stuff in and there's hardly anything in them.

Yes..some charities have an online outlet as well as their retail op shop.
One op shop I go to where the prices are generally reasonable..some less common items have a note on them saying what the eBay sell price is..then their price which is lower.

Its been ages since I've been to an op shop. We used to go regularly and found some beautiful pieces of glasswork and aboriginal artwork. Once I get my car back, I'll have to go have a look. Early in the week is the best time to find treasure because those who sell at markets seem to scour the op shops later in the week.

here's the other thing I wanted to mention.. Italian silver hallmarks are really weird. I bought this modern silver desk clock because I noticed it was marked "925" and I assumed it was silver because of that mark. When I got it home I read the other hallmarks, which are "" 925" "star" 146 AN R 5 divided by 7 g which seems to be a marking for silver plate.. anyway it's weird that they can mark things 925 ( which we use for solid silver) when they're not

the star symbol is also another silver mark the 146 AN would be the province and maker
about halfway down this page is an explanation of the hallmarks
so the R 5 divided by 7 g means it's silverplated
a) In the objects partially or totally coated with a sheet of precious metal, the use of putty is allowed to fix the thin sheet to its support, on condition that the density of the putty is not more than 2,5 g/cubic cm. and that its percentage in weight does not exceed 25% of the total weight of the object, and that it is marked with an "R" in a square accompanied by the metal's weight in grams and tenths of gram, followed by the symbol "g" for the coverings in platinum, palladio and gold, and adheres to the conditions illustrated at letter c) for the coverings in silver;
oh boy... what silly complicated marks
so I've learnt something new this week

when I started this thread I was just thinking that I haven't found any interesting glass lately( which is mainly what I collect) but today I found this nice lttle Victorian Steven and Williams glass vase at my local oppie.. The amber coloured glass glows bright orange , so has manganese in it

but the last time i went they had put there prices up way too much.

That is a pretty vase.
Now .. most home decor stuff is mass produced in Asia. Look at home styling photos and the decor is all much the same. Still a few pottery, ceramic artists around though.

Carmella,ini the store,,, a volunteer who'd dnoated it told me that an elderly couple gave it to her just after she arrived here from Austria and she's just hung onto it over the years.. I told her I will treasure it and look after it for her

Good finds Deb - our Salvo and Vinnies only have crappy stuff in fact we are battling to find a local charity bin - they have removed them because people were leaving so much rubbishy stuff cluttering footpaths with clothing strewn everywhere. Mr has just gone with 2 big bags from my make room for new clothes  |

It's a McHugh pottery vase that I picked up for $8.00. I wasn't keen on the colours of it at first, but it's growing on me will post a pic soon |

That litte vase Sin is about 12 cm high which comverts to,just under 5 inches

here's the McHugh vase... I don't know much about Australian pottery.. I have a couple of John Campbell pieces, but this is ny first McHugh. I have a preference for the green glazes, but this one is growing on me. I think it dates to the 1930's

Nice. I found nothing, as expected. That op shop I went to is just full of useless and all the other ones in the area are closed down now due to gumtree.
