geez.... they are still doing it
THE first livestock ship to depart WA after the industry’s shaming last week was another horror story, with sheep being trampled and dying — while still docked in Fremantle.
Ms MacTiernan said after being denied access, inspectors obtained a warrant to inspect the vessel, which had arrived in Fremantle from Adelaide, bringing sheep and cattle before loading more animals here.

You beat me to it Deb. There was a report on that in The Sunday Times this morning. There are simply no words strong enough to express my disgust.

West Australian Premier Mark McGowan has threatened to ramp up action against the live animal export trade, saying he is open to using state law to block livestock carriers breaching animal welfare standards from leaving the state's ports.
just DO IT Mark McGowan

I love the idea of "cultured meat." Grown in a petri dish- without the suffering of animals, and the wholesale destruction of our land- while still putting a tasty burger on my plate. Revolutionary ideas are what will save the planet. Would you eat a lab-grown steak? I plan on trying one at the first opportunity- www.laboratoryequipment.com/news/2016/01/farm-lab-vitro-meat-and-future-food

From the article-
"Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, jumped on board with the project right away, funding the pricey burger.
“I like to look at technology opportunities where the technology seems like its on the cusp of viability and if succeeds there, it can be really transformative for the world,” said Brin."
The only real hurdle is the psychology behind eating a beef steak that wasn't once a cow. I think it's the wave of the future...

did you happen to see the conditions of the ship the sheep were being transported in Dalt. I heard it went world wide
I still eat a bit of meat, I could go without it though
we were pretty much brought up on meat and three vegies here. I've never thought about "manufactured"steak

As long as it doesn't taste like soy protein I'm open to it. Most of our convenience foods are pumped full of chemicals and additives anyway.

I love a good steak- and one that is produced with minimal impact to the environment- will taste that much better. Cheers!

I'd be quite happy to eat manufactured steak - s long as it tasted like the real thing.
I abhor cruelty of any kind but I do sometimes wonder if those militant vegans ever watch wildlife programmes.

It can't go on the way it is (inhumane treatment of aninals). Indonesia imports from Aust. a large amount of live animals for meat. I remember from CS thread that there are quite a few areas there that don't have electricity. A much shorter journey there than Middle East. I'm wondering who are the owners of the animals once they're placed on the ship. The seller or the buyer? Does the Aust farmers responsibilty end then or at the other and once they're off loaded. Not that that matters re animals being mistreated which is the issue here.I just wondered if so many die on the way..who's loss that is and why they let that continue. Fairly sure the buyer owns them on the water , the livestock are insured (natch )

I thought it must be. The farmers would be more interested in the animals travelling conditions etc, if they only got paid for the ones that arrived alived...

Fairly sure the buyer owns them on the water , the livestock are insured (natch ) And our laws would have no jurisdiction over them anyway.. So it's just a big cop out as usual though the farmers federation have come out in support of David Littleproud... There are many farmers saying they'd be happy for live export to end

My favourite little bull terrier is still on the case. This woman is pretty much tireless. twitter.com/AlannahMac?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor"Federal Government has little to be proud of in managing live sheep trade - need to have the guts to make some decisions! We welcome any improvements in live export animal welfare, but today’s announcement doesn’t go far enough. At the very least Feds should accept recommendation to introduce new heat stress model before this summer Minister Littleproud’s response to the McCarthy review doesn’t do WA farmers any favours - we need stronger action to restore public confidence in the trade"

I doubt whether the public will ever have confidence again in the live export trade.

to. It needs to be stopped and NOW not tomorrow.

McCarthy could hardly be less independent: I dare say he collected a big pay packet whilst turning a blind eye to the horror. He was probably more concerned for his own position which, he surely knew, could be jeopardized if he, as Dr Lynn Simpson had, blew the whistle!
interesting convo from twitter.. it was this Michael McCarthy who wrote the review for the Govt... it was more about finding a way to appease the public than anything else
this is who Michael McCarthy is
Owner/Managing Director Global Livestock Solutions Pty Ltd (formerly Professional Agricultural Services Pty Ltd) April 1997 - Present / Brisbane, Queensland Servicing the livestock industries under the headings of Supply Chain, Food Security, Carbon and Breeding Solutions.
General Manager - Beef Production Heytesbury Pastoral Company April 1996 - April 1997 / Brisbane, Queensland Part of executive management team involved in the strategic decision making for the company that consisted of 14 properties running a herd 235,000 head of cattle.
Livestock Manager Esperance Land and Development Company (ELD) June 1988 - July 1992 / Esperance, Western Australia Responsible for the company's livestock run on ten large properties east and west of Esperance in Western Australia. The property ran over 300,000 sheep and 14,000 cattle. The position required skills in livestock marketing, property co-ordination and staff management.
Sales Complex/Feedlot Manager Anglo- Australian Foods Pty Ltd January 1986 - December 1986 / West Kimberley region of Western Australia Responsible for managing the large Inkata selling complex. The position involved conducting a series of live appraisal sales and managing a pilot-feeding project that utilized feed from the company's irrigation project.
what a sham!!

Craig Emerson @drcraigemerson 16h16 hours ago More It’s clear the Government considers the live sheep export issue resolved and is calculating that you, the people, will now lose interest. Do not let up!
Do not let up! The Government is counting on you losing interest.Craig Emerson added,
