This post has been prompted by recent happenings and is my view and opinion, I'm not trying to control anyone or any other board or even to present myself as holier than thou, just opening up a discussion on this to get others opinions if they wish to share them....
Anyone who knows me will tell you I can be as feral as the best - or worst, depending on your point of view.
Once upon a time I used to take delight in posting feral pics just to shock and nauseate people because I found it hell funny - I still do it in a way milder form and in a forewarned appropriate manner so people can choose to keep reading/scrolling or back out.
I would laugh and scoff and call anyone who objected prudes and tell them it was funny and they were too sensitive and to go eff themselves if they didn't like it. Why do I not do that now?
Because I finally realised I was being a total arse.
What I took then as criticism and bitching at me I now realise was simply feedback on how I posted and it was justified and totally called for.
I felt I was entitled to post whatever I wanted wherever I wanted and if others didn't like it they could scroll on by and suck eggs.
Bzzzzzt! Wrong!!!!
People are entitled to choose for themselves what they view, not to have it shoved in their face where and when they should not have to expect it.
I know such a post from me will cause eye rolling among some and I will be called sanctimonious and a hypocrite by some - well have at it, I don't care.
I'm not saying everything should be off limits and no fun should be had, just to exercise some awareness of time and place, show some consideration for others and some common sense to show respect for them and yourself.

There is nothing either hypocritical or sanctimonious about learning from past mistakes and understanding where you went wrong, Pepe. I suspect most of us have behaved like smartarses at times and not stopped to consider the effect our 'clever' posts might have had on their targets. Having said that, I think anyone who is going to venture into online chat rooms has to develop a thick skin. I've had my share of snide comments aimed at me over the years - think C A M P I N G.  I didn't let them get to me because I knew what the truth was and I also knew the comments said a lot more about the little grub posting them than they did about me. Having a cohort of supportive online friends certainly helped too.  |
