bwren is left like a shag on a rock, very rarely do her posts on CR get noticed or responded to, she won't enter into the german conversation, whatever her views, because she hasn't got the courage, and so all she has left now is to biff on DHS without any backup

What ava said. For someone (BW) who has been a serious troll for 10 years or more.. she's such a lame ass. That dog/cat story was 3rd hand wasn't it? We all know what she's like with repeating something she's seen or heard.. never gets it right.

As I think I've mentioned before, my very first interaction with Icy on CS was when she took me to task for commenting in a post about my European river trip on how it felt to stand on the parade ground in Nuremburg and imagine it full of chanting Hitler supporters during the Nazi rallies of the 1930s. She informed me sniffilly that there were many more interesting things to see in Munich and I shouldn't be so blinkered. I pointed out that, unlike her, I actually remember W.W.ll and didn't see my dad till I was nearly 4 because he was a P.O.W. so of course I was interested in the history.
There is a nice corollary to that Nuremburg visit though. Alongside the parade ground is a huge, brutal, though never finished, building that was going to be an undercover venue for future rallies. Inside there is now an exhibition showing the rise (and resulting horrors) of the Nazi regime. It was very informative. One of the things that puzzled me about the building was the entrance. It was obviously not a part of the original design, but a light, delicate walkway made entirely of glass. I asked the guide about it and she said it was designed specifically like that - as an arrow of light, piercing the heart of darkness to make sure nothing so terrible could ever happen again. I was really touched. Clearly not all Germans are as defensive about their history as Icy.
(edited because I had a brain-fart senior moment and got my cities muddled - it was, of course Nuremburg, not Munich.

I don't remember you mentioning that before, penny. Interesting.
I wasn't aware of icy being from Germany until her last UK/EU/Germany trip... the one before that (from memory) she said hubs wanted to go to Germany... so I thought he was the one from there (he could be also).
There was a youngish German guy on CW/CS - maurice.. he was a bit 'unusual' but he certainly didn't have icy's attitudes. I think most Germans, living outside Germany, would let wise cracks like g/l's pass them by.
My friend in Scotland.. her father was very against the Germans and her in-laws were Germans living in Scotland.. difficult situation there.

LOL Dawn. Childkiller dogs all begin by killing small animals and starting fires. If you keep matches and lighters out of their reach, the children of the world should be safe. There was a news article a few years ago that stated that it is only a matter of time before bengal cats start attacking babies because they [bengals not babies] are the pitbulls of the cat world. Bengal cats tend to be beautifully behaved around children and babies [there are examples] yet be complete ratbags when it comes to adults. But, just incase my potential baby killers act on their killer instincts, I have a sign near my front door that reads "BEWARE OF THE CATS. ENTER AT OWN RISK".

Penny, one of the sessions at the Melbourne Writers Festival that I went to years is go was with a Jewish writers group. Their experiences were heartbreaking. One elderly woman who was six years old at the time, was marched, along with the other townsfolk, to the trains to take them to their deaths. One German soldier helped her to escape and told her to run and hide. She suffered terrible guilt for being the only member of her family to have survived the Holocaust.
I posted about my best friend's father on DH but I'll post it here, too. He was a young man when Hitler came to power. He was forced to join the German Army. He became a part of the underground but remained with the German army until he was out of Germany, then, after becoming stateless, joined the French Foreign Army, before ending up in Australia. [He met his wife, who was also from Germany, in Australia. She still suffers from PTSD from her wartime experiences]. When he had an audience with Hitler, he was terrified that his double-life would be exposed and he and his family would be tortured and killed. While putting up the appearance of being a good German soldier, he was taking photographs to be used in the false passports that helped many to escape to safety. He always said that Germany has been shamed by the Holocaust and that it should feel shame but to learn from it and make sure that it never happened again by understanding why and how it happened in the first place. He said that those who want to deny it or sweep it under the carpet are a part of the problem and undermine the experiences of those who died and of those who survived. He was a wise man and such a loss for the world. He loved people and said that the world was his university. His grandson intends to write a biography about him.

What an incredibly brave young man.
There were German POWs working on the farm where we lived just after the war. They were from East Germany so there was a problem with repatriating them. They were nice, ordinary young men - one of hem had been a village blacksmith - and they were really sweet to me and my sister and made lots of little wooden toys for us. Even my dad got on well with them, despite having spent 3 years as a POW. I'm pretty sure my parents never discussed the holocaust with them and they probably didn't know what was going on - but as I said on DH it's easy not to know abut something if you don't want to. (And I don't mean deliberately turning a blind eye, just not allowing yourself to be curious about it)
People like to think the whole Nazi thing was a shocking aberration - a flaw in the German character and something that could never happen here - but Looking at the state of the world today I sometimes get a horrible sense of deja vu.

i think it was a flaw in the character of humankind and it absolutely could happen again anywhere, thats why it is so important that it be spoken about and not trivialised in any way

I guess today with internet access, mobile phone(cameras, data) ...it's likely something that bad would be spread around quite quickly...so the rest of the world could be aware of it.
I know some countries control their publics internet access (incl mobile data) so that means they could still hide what goes on in their country..

A lot is still hidden but gets smuggled out at great risk. The genocide that is happening in West Papua has been kept pretty much hush hush. The Rohingan genocide was kept hidden for a long time and no doubt atrocities are being carried out in the world that we will never know about, or at least not for a very long time.

So Is alt PF/Linus or not? I've gone back and forth on this since the first accusation.
Today, I think yes. Yes, that is Linus.
If it is, everyone is going to be finding out who she is sooner than later. It won't be pretty.
Edited to add: My last interaction with Linus was about 9 years ago. My buddy amethyst (rip) asked me to give her a millionth chance and I did. Things went okay for a few months and then she decided amethyst was black, he wasn't but so what if he was? She decided I am a lesbian. I'm not, but so what if I was? It went downhill really really really fast.

Hi everyone
Dawn... I don't know much about PF at all. Only the j/law- p/f thing and then p/f got banned. I didn't even see all that go down.
Alt does tend to get a bit precious...

The rule is that having it out with someone must be done on the Dead Horse. It seems odd to me because the politics board is just as vicious, if not more so.
I don't think nana visits the DH but no doubt someone will let her know. Bwren no doubt.

There was a thread in politics started to harass the poster Nat Turner. If it had been started to attack an RW it would have been moved immediately.
I love that board, but the fact is... favoritism takes place.
