I read today about that a huge problem that India has with covid is population density. I am guessing that is a problem with you guys also....most of the population living in close quarters in urban environments. That is something about Australia that didn't really sink in until posting here. www.businessinsider.com/this-map-shows-population-density-across-australia-2017-7So another question is about agriculture....is there enough tillable land to support food demand?

Hi Bean... I like this thread.... thanks for re-posting it
we mostly live along the coast here in Aus. although we are a large continent/island.. the centre is desert.. India's population is 1.38 billion. . ours is about 25.26 million.. if the virus escapes from hotel quarantine... it can rapidly spread ( as happened to us in Melb last year) we want our Govt. to build quarantine facilities outside of major cities, ( they've only had 14 months to do this so far)
we are a commodity rich country and we export just about everything.. coal, gas, iron (and much more),we have enough farmland to sustain ourselves and more, but we don't have enough manufacturing plants here.( have allowed that to go to China) lack of water has become a problem for us... with foreign financial institutions and the Chinese buying up our water rights in regions where water is scarce.

I was in India a couple of years ago bean and although most Australians live in a relatively small part of our continent we have nowhere near the population density they have. I remember being gob-smacked, on arriving in Mumbai, to realise that the entire population of Australia could fit into that one city! Even in the rural villages Indians live in very small houses very closely together.

I remember reading a prediction that wars of the future will be over water....here ownership of water rights has become an issue also.

the problem with water isn't chinese buyers and is only partially ''foreign financial institutions '' government ministers now steer the water rights into ''family owned pastoral companies '' it's a racket so they shift the blame to foreign actors .. sound familiar ?

India - 28% of population in poverty.
Australia 13.6%
Philippines 16.6% 18.7. I thought that would be higher. Their health system can't cope with covid cases. After a positive covid test have to go on a waiting list to get into a hospital (most likely die before you get in), also have to provide your own nurse. Many have relatives who moved to Australia and who send them money.

There is much buzz about phasing out/reducing social security and Medicare benefits here. On another board there was a post that said Australia was going to discontinue your programs (whatever they are called, sorry, I don't know their names) for those born after 1975. Do they work as they do here? Is that the case? How does that set with you guys? ______________________________________________________________________ Edited to say....please disregard the above questions. I should have done some reading first. It seems your social system is just as controversial as ours. Duh! Not the intention on my part for this thread....so Nevermind!

Queensland Tropical rainforests. The Queensland tropical rain forests ecoregion (WWF ID: AA0117) covers a portion of the coast of Queensland in northeastern Australia and belongs to the Australasian realm. The forest contains the world's best living record of the major stages in the evolutionary history of the world's land plants, including most of the world's relict species of plants from the ancient supercontinent of Gondwana.[2] The history of the evolution of marsupials and songbirds is also well represented.

I remember my sister and her husband visited Hutt River Province many years ago. They didn't stay long Maybe the cookers should start up their own nation. I'm sure no one would object.

When Hutt River Province was first declared they opened their own post office and produced their own stamps. People were invited to write to Prince Leonard enclosing a self addressed envelope and it would be posted back duly stamped and postmarked 'Hutt River Province'. I did so, but my letter was returned undelivered by Australia Post with the explanation 'undeliverable, address unknown.'

"Cookers consist of people who believe a wide range of conspiracy theories, whether mainstream or fringe. Multiple definitions of the term Cooker can be found on Urban Dictionary, though none really capture the true nature of the Cooker as demonstrated during the Conn-voy to Kambra [Canberra, Capital City, Aust.] 2022. In the Qanon community cult, the "gifted" people who takes Q's cryptic pronouncements (known to the cultists as breadcrumbs) then extrapolate and stretch them into semi-coherant ideas and conspiracies are lovingly known as Bakers. The cooker is a little lower on the social scale of far right nut jobs. The cooker doesn't really create any new conspiracies, the cooker contributes to the cause by merely believing every conspiracy they ever hear, no matter how far fetched or moronic the conspiracy might be." cookerpedia.org/wiki/Cooker
