I thought we had one but I can't find it.
Kaye, I have a good one for you if you haven't already read it. The Nowhere Child by Christian White. I really enjoyed it and it had a bit of a twist that I wasn't expecting.
I'm still waiting for the new Ian Dalton one to come out. I thought it was supposed to be in June. In the meantime I'm tackling Stephen King again. I kind of stopped reading him a long time ago but they are always worth a read.

I’ll look out for it. I’ve just finished A Decent Family by Rosa Ventrella. It was good. It had the same feeling as the Elena Ferranti Neopolitan series.
A book I recently absolutely loved is The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams. One of the best stories I have ever read.

I've just finished binge reading (on Kindle) the DCI Banks crime series - he is a very different character in the books to what he was in the TV series. I am about to embark on Hilary Mantel's latest historical novel The Mirror And The Light - all 800 odd pages of it! That should keep me going for a while. It's the third book in a trilogy about the rise and fall of Thomas Cromwell - Henry VIII's chief minister.

I have a bad habit of reading the last book in a series not knowing it's a trilogy. Then I don't want to read what I missed leading up to it.
I have seen that book Kay (Dictionary of Lost Words). I'll pick it up next time.

Recently I have read Boy Swallows Universe. I really enjoyed this.
For a bit of lighthearted fun and romance I recommend Janet Elizabeth Hendersons series of novels on life in Invertary, a Scottish town.
Daffodils by Alex Martin is good, it's set during WW1 and follows the life of a young woman from a remote English village who goes off to war.
I've just finished Where The Crawdads Sing, by Delia Qwens. I really enjoyed this but I felt the end was a bit ....rushed, like- they'd run out of things to write so just wound it up quickly. Also just finished Never Never by James Patterson. First time I've read one of his. I found it rather predictable.

Boy Swallows Universe was good. I found it a bit difficult to get into but I’m glad I persisted.
I’m almost finished Brave Girl, Quiet Girl by Catherine Ryan Hyde. It’s not particularly great writing but it deals with interesting issues regarding homelessness, trust and relationships, particularly mothers and daughters.
I received Office of Innocence by Thomas Keneally in the post today so I’m looking forward to getting into that. It was recommended by a SiL

I’ve just started Women and Leadership: Real Lives, Real Lessons by Julia Gillard and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. Really interesting so far and an easy read unlike some of these type of books.

I've read the start of The Last of The Bonegilla Girls. A post-Second World War story of strong female ties and family, secrets and lies, set in the multicultural Australia of the fifties My niece works at Bonegilla. Well she did, until covid.
I haven't download the entire book yet, because I have assessments to complete, and the book would be a distraction, but I like what I have read so far.

I've put off reading the Mirror And The Light for the time being and I'm working my way through another bucket list classic, A Tale Of Two Cities. It's quite heavy going - Dickens can be rather verbose at times, but his take on the causes and consequences of the French Revolution is surprisingly honest and accurate.

Well I'm plodding my way through The Mirror And The Light. It may have had rave reviews, but I am finding it exceedingly tedious - mainly, I think, because all the main characters are so devious and unpleasant that I can't summon up the interest to care what happens to them. I guess I'll struggle on though, because I've used up my self-imposed kindle allowance for this month. So I can't buy anything more interesting till next week.

Well I managed to struggle through The Institute by Stephen King. It was a good story but I would have enjoyed it more if it was only about a third as long. I used to be a huge fan but tastes change I suppose. He's still a great writer though. Look what I've got on the agenda now.

I finished reading the Dictionary of Lost Words today. What an amazing book. I really enjoyed reading it although I did have to stop several times because it was making me cry Thanks for recommending it Kay. My next one is oddly another book about books. It's called The Binding. It sounds very interesting so let's hope so.

So glad you enjoyed it joono.
I’m (re)reading Jane Eyre. My grandma gave it to me when I was about 11 or 12 and I don’t think I’ve read it since. I’m sure I’m getting a different message from it now. I think Charlotte Brontë must have been quite a feminist for her time.
I preordered All Our Shimmering Skies by Trent Dalton (the author of Boy Swallows Universe) today. It looks really interesting.

I just ticked another 'classic' off my bucket list. The Hound Of The Baskervilles. I actually enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to.
I also downloaded onto my Kindle (because it was cheap) a set of four early Georgette Heyer novels. They are VERY silly.

I got my kindle copy of All the Shimmering Skies and I’m loving it. Beautiful descriptive writing and an intriguing storyline. It’s much better than Boy Swallows Universe in my opinion

I'm about a quarter of the way through, Kay. I do love his writing although I'm not finding it easy to read if that makes sense. I can't wait to see where this goes.

I finished Shimmering Skies this morning. I still love it and I think my favourite book character might now be Molly Hook. I didn’t really understand the symbolism of the sleepers though (I assume there was some). Any ideas?

I'm a much slower reader Kay. I'm just half way through and they've now met Yukio. I cracked up with the fat barramundi hint. Molly is quite a character.

I finished it at 4 am. I found it difficult to get into. It was hard to follow the disjointed, almost psychotic thoughts and memories of thee child. It got easier when she was older and went on the big walk. I do wonder about the authors mental state. I prefer Boys swallows universe.
