Prayers to Ukraine- only 35% of the population has been vaccinated against COVID- and there have been growing reports of "Bomb shelter flu."
Like they don't have enough to deal with.

I spent the better part of yesterday morning organising my travel pcr test, [which must be done within 48 hours of departure but must have results back in time (at *cough* $145!)], filling in online forms, uploading vaxx certificates, etc, etc, etc What a bloody performance! And I haven’t even started on what I have to do to get back into the country
I know it will all be worth it, but I wonder how anyone without techno or literacy or language skills would manage.

Our eldest son, his wife and their boy have just tested+ He says he and boy are feeling fine but she feels like she has a cold. Interestingly their daughter, who is not quite 5 and not yet vaxxed is neg. They are wondering if she may have had it without symptoms and given it to the rest of the family 🤷🏼♀️
I don’t think I mentioned it before, but himself had it while I was in NZ. He contracted it after I left and was back out of iso by the time I got back 😀 Perfect timing huh 😃 He was fine, just a few minor symptoms.
Vaccination’s great isn’t it?!

That's good the family aren't being affected too badly by covid.
$145 for a departure test is exxy, especially if a traveller needed to get a new passport or one renewed ($300?) or getting their first passport as well. Plus the airfare. Just to fly 3.5 hours to NZ (Sydney to Chch for me).

I heard something on the radio yesterday about the HUGE backlog of passport applications. People are booking holidays and then not getting their passport renewed in time.

Yes, especially for people that haven't had a passport before. More checks to be done. Priority ones are taking much longer than they should also.
OH had his renewed recently - took 3 weeks. Which is quick compared to how long others are taking.

The death toll in NSW and Vic was pretty high yesterday....we're all still wearing masks in crowds, my family, we have to as someone in the family is quite vulnerable

everyone seems to think it is over, Deb, but far from it.......in Qld we had 7 deaths in 2020/2021, and just this year it is in the hundreds....around 350 or more? i think we forget about because we no longer have daily bulletins...my daughter, who is in the vulnerable category, wears a mask all the time, children in the classroom are getting covid one after the other, domino fashion, she wears a mask when visiting me, very considerate

I had my second booster in May. Total now 2 vaccines, 2 boosters. A flu vaccine in April.
ACT - 17 June - 860 cases
I still wear a mask when out, but very few other people do now.

I reckon about 30% of people are still wearing them in Melb.

About the same in Perth. I'm still wearing one in some situations. I read some people saying they get comments or have people giving them dirty looks. I've never seen that. It's seems pretty accepted, especially among older people.

Grocery shopping here, you would be lucky to see about 6 people with a mask on.

Outbreak of coronavirus on a cruise ship docked in Queensland as the state's third virus wave nears 41,000 active cases
here we go again

Yes... not ruling out here that masks might be mandatory again.
COVID cases in the ACT are set to triple in the next four weeks, putting much more pressure on a health system already under great strain as staff contract COVID and flu. The territory's chief health officer Dr Kerryn Coleman warned that the current thousand or so cases a day would reach 2000 or even 3000 by early August.

I could never understand why they lifted the mask from being mandatory.

The new omnicron variations are everywhere. And much more contagious than before..it's good to see that worksafe have charged 2 of the nursing homes where we saw a lot of deaths during the first wave in Vic

My cousin had covid a couple of months ago, the rest of the family had it last week. They are in Brisbane. Nothing on Gods little green earth could entice me on to a cruise ship these days, not that I ever had any interest, but it’s definitely off the bucket list these days.

I'm going for my 2nd booster tomorrow. My fourth jab. According to Cy I must only have six months to live. I asked for the form today so I don't have to fill it in tomorrow. That's the worst part.
I would love to go on a cruise. Not at the moment but when this covid thing is all over.

The Govt is withdrawing free RATs for concession holders soon. Doesn't sound to me to be a good time to be doing that..with 1000's more cases expected every day.

It's a two page list of questions you have to tick off plus give all your details like regular doctor, medicare, email address etc.
I am getting it done at the chemist, but you have to fill the silly form in at the doctors too where I had my first vaccination done.

One of my good ebay buddies has contracted it. Influenza A nearly wiped her off the planet about 4 years ago, and this has hit her hard too. Some idiot in her work place went to work coughing and hacking and insisting it wasn't covid.

Any symptoms should stay home, get a test done..and that has been in since early 2020.
