I'm so sick of news readers and stories saying that Mark McGowans announcement was a shock and unexpected and a backflip. It was not. It was actually expected by most here with Omicron going wild in the eastern states and it also seems that most people are totally fine and even happy about it. They only manage to put the unhappy people on the tv though. Sick of the politics going on. We have more cases here today so we don't want a flood already. the media been doing a " Dan Andrews" on Mark McGowan, Joono.... it didn't work for them here either. he'll win the next state election hands down. no matter how much they bag him

As for the businesses struggling and damage to the tourist industry, what a croc! Everywhere is packed with locals and accommodation is pretty much full to the brim. What businesses don't like is that they don't have backpackers to pay the lowest possible wage to staff their businesses. here and in NSW all the businesses are complaining that it's worse than being in lockdown because no-one is going out and spending money. Locals can and do support the economy , when they feel safe enough to do so. most of us wish we had the freedom you have. They're always complaining... you get sick of hearing about it and you're right about the back-packers ( international students filled this bill too) |

We took the family to a local club the other night for an early dinner (outside and well distanced). Usually at this time of year it would be packed and you’d have trouble finding a table. Not this time, it was less than half full.
The accommodation places are all full apparently and there are people on the beaches, but it seems families are just staying in and doing their own thing. Not eating out but getting takeaway or whatever.

One of my neighbours on our shared driveway caught covid last week. She seems to have had a light dose, which is good. She spent some time with two other neighbours last week (indoors) but they haven't had any signs of it.

SIL is still in the hospital,
looks rough but getting better.
She is still on oxygen and is doing
physical therapy. It remains to be seen
if she will ever take care of herself or live
alone again.

I feel really bad for Goblin's SIL. Like so many who have fallen under the 24/7 FOX/OAN "News" spell... not feeling anger toward the person who refuses to take the vaccine- but feel something bordering on hatred for the fully vaccinated Cucker Tarlson types who- at the same time- vilify the science.
The anti-vax talking heads are all fully vaccinated... makes one wonder about their motivation when they call Fauci the Debbil.

Getting old is hard enough.
There are new adjustments we have to make
all the time in order to keep our independence.
The added problems that can develop from Covid
are so unnecessary. Just get the vaccine so
you at least have something in your corner. I finally
managed to talk my daughter into letting her son,
our youngest grandson, into getting the shot. My
daughter just got over her second run-in with Covid.
Much sicker the second time.

Cheers! Children- after the age of 12ish- should be able to make their own decisions when it comes to vaccinations.

OK, i just had a listen, i took it that after the horrific images 2 years ago from china and the US, the task force was preparing for morgues to be set up in hospitals and to keep people (who might be going there for a minor reason) away so that they would not contract the virus.......that sounds reasonable to me

She is aware of her whereabouts and
situation.
No info on how much longer her hospital
stay will be.
Brother in law who had Covid back when it first
reared its ugly head, April 2020, has just had lung biopsies
taken because he can't take a deep breath anymore.
They are checking for blood clots as well as other
things. There is no end to the bad news.
When it hits home it hits hard.............
