A few days after flying- me, my wife, son, and DIL all started feeling a head cold. Stuffy, a little run down- but no fevers, and our appetites have been good. We've all received three doses of Moderna COVID vaccine. We knew it was somewhat risky to travel, but figured we could catch this stuff at the local grocery store as easily as anywhere else.
All I know is that COVID is everywhere. It's not a matter of whether you get it- it's a matter of when.
... and 90% of people who end up in the ICU with COVID complications are unvaccinated.
If everyone were vaccinated- we could be talking about COVID like we talk about Polio- in the past tense.

apparently that will not happen Dalt, it is said that eventually it will be like influenza, always around, and needing vaccinations and hand washing etc to keep it at bay....and new strains needing new vaccines like influenza does

If we can get to that point Maggie, and third world countries also have access to vaccines, that would be great
It’s going to take an awful lot of international cooperation though, which I’m not confident about

the death toll is getting a bit high in NSW. I must admit I'm a bit nervous about schools going back... glad I don't have any kids still at school. There were a lot of cases coming from schools pre Chrisrtmas
I notice Mark McGowan is copping it from the media... how do the Waussies here feel about the extended border restrictions?

Our eldest grandson (6yo) is getting his vaxx this afternoon and the other eligible 2 (6 & 5 on Sunday) get theirs next week. I’m so glad they are getting them before they go back to school.. I just wish there was something available for the youngest 2. The 2yo’s day care has been closed this week because of staffing and childrens infections and contacts.

I'm happy with it, Deb, except it's my Melbourne son's birthday tomorrow and it's a biggie I can't get my booster until the end of Feb so otherwise it suits me just fine. I've blocked two anti-vaxxers on Twitter today that tried to have a go at me for my stance. Not worth arguing with.

I'm happy with it - even though it look like my trip to Sydney is off again (4th attempt!)
I actually feel very sorry for McGowan - he was damned if he did, damned if he didn't.

"New data analysis has revealed that if US Democratic voters were to make up their own country, it would have one of the world’s most vaccinated populations, with more than 91% of adults having received at least one shot. Meanwhile, approximately 60% of Republican adults have received their first shot, according to data research by the New York Times. And the gap in Covid’s death toll between “blue” states that vote mostly Democratic and “red” states that vote mostly Republican this fall widened more quickly than at any previous point of the pandemic. A total of 25 out of every 100,000 residents in counties that voted for Donald Trump died of Covid in October, compared with the 7.8 per 100,000 in counties that voted heavily for Biden, according to the data analysis from the Times..." www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/dec/17/counties-voted-trump-higher-covid-death-rateI guess us libtard stoner types are supposed to be happy about these stats, but only feel sadness when thinking about the needless deaths brought to us by the fear-mongering "righteous" far-right. The science is solid- vaccines save lives. Tuck Cucker Tarlson's lies- that guy is fully vaccinated, and has access to the best health care on earth... he's not going to die.

I'm so sick of news readers and stories saying that Mark McGowans announcement was a shock and unexpected and a backflip.
It was not. It was actually expected by most here with Omicron going wild in the eastern states and it also seems that most people are totally fine and even happy about it. They only manage to put the unhappy people on the tv though. Sick of the politics going on. We have more cases here today so we don't want a flood already.

As for the businesses struggling and damage to the tourist industry, what a croc! Everywhere is packed with locals and accommodation is pretty much full to the brim. What businesses don't like is that they don't have backpackers to pay the lowest possible wage to staff their businesses.

If I had Omicron last week, my husband now has it. Today I feel human for the first time in days. But my husband started feeling sick today.

Maggie, we use the ‘wiggle your toes’ trick to distract kids when sticking needles in them. It also helps to stop you tensing your arm. Our grandkids were coming up today for a visit, haven’t seen them for 12 months. Got a call from Son this morning to say DIL has covid. Can’t say I’m surprised and I guess it’s better to get it now before school goes back and she’s confronted with dozens of germ carrying kids.

Glad you are on the mend Egulch. I wonder if man ‘rona is like man flu? No matter what my husband gets, it's always the worst for him. As much as I love him, he's like a toddler when he gets sick. But then I have to admit, when I'm sick he takes really good care of me, so I can't complain. I know he's not feeling well today as he's still in bed (8:10 a.m. here). He's usually up every morning between 5 and 6, so he must need the sleep.

SIL Update:
They removed the feeding tube. Reduced her oxygen level. Said they were moving her out of the ICU. She had a fairly good first day but things took a nosedive and they had to have the feeding tube put back in and oxygen increased. They want to do an MRI to see if there is anything else going on but she kept jerking, twisting, and moving to the degree they couldn't manage it. I think they are wondering if she has had a stroke. One step forward, ten steps back.

SIL has turned the corner. She is awake, talking, eating, and appears alert. She has been moved out of the ICU.
Things are looking up. Now we see if there are any Long-term stuff going on.

"Only" a couple thousand people died from COVID complications in the US today- and 90% of those deaths were among the unvaccinated.
I'm pretty much done trying to argue statistics with those who choose their own definition of science.
