Lol… if anyone should be worried it’d be me… Not super young, and spent a month on the hospital with a lung infection when young… Those who feel vulnerable are the ones who need to lock down… Not those who feel strong enough to battle it… We cannot hide from this disease… It’s here for life As I said, in Mexico no issues… afraid locking down is simply a delay tactic… Lock down the old and weak, and we move on… Granted as hospital capacity is maxed measured need be taken… But herd immunity is the ONLY way out of this one. Hiding won't help. This new variant sounds like a god send... Very mild, very contagious... Vaxxed getting it as well.. Most have cold/flu symptoms two three days then over it. All viruses tend to mutate towards more contagious/less deadly This variant did just that. i am old, and you think i and others like me should be locked down in our homes, have no contact with our families or friends, so selfish people like you are free to roam and infect others?
i have an immune compromised person in my family, nowhere near "old", who can't be "locked down", has to go to work, so is exposed to egocentric people like you and your viruses
a huge percentage of any population is vulnerable, so they should all stay home? what will happen to the taxes that they will stop paying (paying to benefit you)
855,843....were these all "old and weak"? and should have stayed locked in their homes?

Serendipity? This just came up on my Twitter feed. It’s written by Sam Connor @criprights
Yesterday I received a booster shot. I was at the doctors and he said if I came back in the afternoon about an hour after they started jabs, I’d almost certainly score a cancelled appointment.
I was with five others, all elderly. We spent the next fifteen minutes together. Fifteen minutes with a stranger is a long time. After the nurse gave us our boosters, we waited in chairs, lined up in the clinic. Three older women, two older man. As you do when thrust together, we began talking.
The woman with the walking frame was Deaf and her companion was mad because she kept having to shout. Finally in exasperation she said, don’t you have your hearing aid on, Sylvia? ‘What?’ Sylvia bellowed at her. Eventually she understood. ‘I can’t hear through these masks!’
My mother was Deaf. I said there were masks with clear panels - she was clearly a lip reader. Her companion pointed to her own ear. ‘I have a cochlear implant,’ she told me. ‘When they turned it on for the first time…’ She must have been at least 70. Her grin was dazzling.
One of the men was impatient. ‘Do you have a watch?’ he asked me. ‘I have a phone.’ He looked unimpressed, because he didn’t ask for a phone. I told him I would tell him when time was up.
Small talk, they used to call it. Nothing important, nothing deep. Just talk.
Sylvia’s companion told me that Sylvia had a cousin who lives in Toodyay. Sheila, her name is. She likes horses, she told me. ‘Do you know her?’ she asked. Perhaps by face, I told her. Mostly a lie. I don’t recognise people by their face. I don’t know if I know Sheila.Sheila was my mother’s name.
I wondered how many children and grandchildren these people had between them - how many jobs they had held, how many houses they had built, beds they’d laid in and loved in. I wondered what that hole in the world would look like if they left it.
Small talk. I remember all the words, but nothing really was said. A cousin called Sheila who liked horses, masks with clear windows.
A minute to go, I told the impatient man. He got up immediately. ‘Not yet, not yet!’ said Sylvia gaily. He smiled at her, left.
Just a small group of people, faces I’ll never recognise again. I wondered if ScottMorrison thought about we people who are considered disposable, expendable. If they’d gone to war for their country or brought up someone else’s children or volunteered their whole life long.
Small talk, but an enormous loss to the world if taken before their time. And yes, they were old, and yes, many have lived their lives - but preventable deaths are NOT ‘God’s will’.
If you believe in a God, you also believe He gave you the ability to make others safe. Not make others rich.
I wonder what Sylvia would have thought of our PM, with his Humpty Doo barramundi from a fish farm who had more than thirty million in grant funding. I wondered if she’d know him if she saw him in the street. If she knew he sees her as collateral damage.
Small talk but a gaping hole in the world when any one of us leaves, regardless of age, fitness, disability or race. Those people, combined, have paid more taxes in their lives than Scott Morrison ever earned, I’ll bet.
And now, apparently, they are regarded as less than.
I am tired of us being regarded as Minus People. We are worth as much as any other Australian. And I reject the idea we should not be treated as human. We have the right to be treated fairly and equitably BECAUSE we are human. That’s why they call them human rights.
This tweet doesn’t say anything much. It’s like small talk.
But I wish I could carve out those few minutes and stitch them together like a quilt, as a reminder of the worth of humans, humanity. I wish I could wear it like a priceless cape that nobody would ever want to buy.

So your suggestion is 100% need to lock down to give this 1% more freedom? If you know you are at risk, you need to be careful. There is no long term hiding from this thing… Oddly, letting the strong get it and get immunity DOES protect the weak longer term… Locking down an entire population to protect the less than 1% vulnerable makes absolutely no sense…

Just a bit of empathy and compassion would be nice
If we’re lucky we all get old. Doesn’t mean we cease to be important and valuable

Vaccine booster dose:
"You can get a COVID-19 vaccine booster dose if:
- you are aged 18 years and over - you’ve had 2 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, and - your second dose of COVID-19 vaccine was 4 months ago."
Third covid Vaccine: "People aged 12 years and over who are severely immunocompromised are recommended a third dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
If you are severely immunocompromised you should reach out to your GP or treating specialist to discuss your individual circumstances.
Severely immunocompromised individuals who have received 3 doses are recommended a booster dose (fourth dose) 4 months after their third dose.

In pandemics of the past, smallpox victims were told to go down by the river and die
Others of Black Plague shunned and burned…
Asking those vulnerable to serious Covid problems to self isolate is pretty logical.

the numbers are getting a bit scary now.. in Vic it seems most are in self imposed lockdown.... very few going out or going shopping... is it the same in NSW?
new reporting from the Vic Gov has included RAT positives.. a whole week's worth came through today NSW not including those positive tests

It's very hard to buy the RATs here deb..a shortage of them. Supposed to be a big lot of them arriving in the country soon. Another Morrison stuff up.
There were lots of cars at the Mall yesterday but not many walking around in there. I presume a lot of families were there to take their kids to the movies.

it's impossible to get them here too Fig... someone I know who has cancer invited her staff over for lunch (today) as they've all been working through ZOOM for the past 2 years but she wanted them to get tested first... they drove all over Melb looking for RAT's but couldn't get any, so she had to call the day off

Huh? They need to do what ever they need to do… Most get few to no symptoms… gain immunity, provid society a service. If you think you may be vulnerable, self isolate, including staying home from work… Inconvenient truths

The Tamworth Music Festival has been postponed due to increasing numbers of local cases. It was cancelled last year. Agquip Field Days was postponed from August until November and then cancelled altogether. It was cancelled the year before. It has been hard on the small regional communities that depend on these annual events to boost their income.

BP "If you think you may be vulnerable, self isolate, including staying home from work…" Basic 101 covid info.
Many thousands of office workers can and do work from home...when covid is spreading rapidly.
Clara..must be so stressful & disappointing arranging events and then they get cancelled.

I was talking to someone yesterday who is convinced the virus was started by the Chinese Government as a means of population control. If true why then has the Chinese Gummit restricted death rates from the disease tin the e lowest levels anywhere? If you are doing pop control, you allow the old and weak to perish … Eases medical costs for a country Premise isn’t logical

Update:
They attempted to remove my SIL from the ventilator but she couldn't breathe so they put it back. Her kidneys are working. Her lungs are at 20%. She moves her feet when her toes are touched. So what does it all mean? What are her chances? Does she hear what is going on?
When my mother passed she made me and my siblings aware that the last thing to go is a dying persons hearing. I don't know if that's true, but if it is, you maybe better watch what is said, or speak from the heart. The situation is very depressing.
But, according to Bigger, she is old, she is weak, and she should have stayed home. I didn't know being an asshole was contagious, but Bigger sure has caught it from his conservative friends.
Maybe he should have worn a mask......................

Your SIL must be a real fighter, Goblins. I do hope she makes it. We have a would-be politician over here who bears a strong similarity to Bigger. His name is Clive Palmer and he heads the United Australia Party - a minor party currently trying to curry favour with Australian voters before the federal election due next year. He had a full page advert in today's paper that said "Western Australia, has McGowan (our State Premier) really saved you? (by enforcing strict border closures with other states) "Most people aged 65 and under can recover from Covid without medical involvement."Given that the current population of Western Australia is around 2.5 million and those over 65 represent around 15% of that population, that makes close to 375,000 potential victims who are NOT likely to recover without medical involvement. So I reckon that ad has most probably pissed off 15% of Western Australians - and that's without counting any family members who may not find them quite as inconsequential as Clive apparently does.

Sounds like your SIL has a rough road ahead Goblins, such a sad and stressful time.
I had a CT scan at our local Hospital yesterday 11/01/2022. I just got a Service NSW
alert, that a positive case was there at the same time as me on 10/01/2022

We now have the ServiceWA app, which we are supposed to use to check in rather than the SafeWA app. So it took me a couple of hours last night to download it, but first I had to download the MyGovID app and link it to that. I waited until night time because I tried in the afternoon but the system kept crashing. Anyway, success of sorts but today I spent a couple of hours more trying to get my vaccination certificate to download to ServiceWA, but to do so I had to download the Medicare Express app. Then I had to link that to the MyGov site (different to the MyGovID app). Are you still with me? Success! Now I have 4 apps when I used to only have one, but I only have to use one of them How are older people going to manage this when some of them don't even have a smart phone?
