I bought and extra kg of sugar, and a box of rolled oats. That’s about it. I keep hoping that common sense will prevail and when I do need to restock the panic buying will be over and the shelves replenished. I’m doomed aren’t I. I’ve just sent hubby out to fire up the rotary hoe and dig up a patch of ground, might be able to grow some cabbage or kale. Oh joy. I wonder if baked cockatiel would be like baked quail ......

i haven't done any panic buying at all as i have a reasonably well stocked freezer anyway- i haven't done a normal shop in over 3 weeks though and my household is down to one and a half rolls of loo paper. i will try to get some tomorrow, if that fails i will get a couple of rolls from my sister.

Been to Coles and Aldi.. Just for a look really, as I was down that way for the Post Office.
More empty shelves than ever.. Coles meat just about empty except for steaks. 2 pack limit on mince (none left).
Aldi only had a small amount of processed meats in crumbs left in their meat cabinet.
Butcher next door was looking happy..no mince and hardly any sausages left.. They have a big choice of sausage types.. a big qty sold.
I've had more luck at Woolies in the mall, so hopefully that doesn't change.

i have bought some powdered milk only, i don't think it will be ever opened, i always have heaps of frozen home made meals and plenty of other stuff........if there is a rule like in england where old people have to stay home for 4 months, i might buy some other things
still can't believe the hysteria.....i'd hate to see them if there was a real problem like a war

We only have the freezer at the bottom of the fridge. I do freeze some home cooked meals but not much room for them in freezer compartment. Surrounded by supermarkets, some open till midnight.. used to just getting extra items when needed.

Problem is everyone has a different opinion of the seriousness.
I think we will just carry on avoid contact with others as much
as possible and hope for the best. We are having our flu shots
tomorrow at Priceline - best to avoid the lurgy in doctor's rooms.

There’s a corona patient in the manning hospital. Make sure you wash your hands lots, don’t touch your faces, and I’d be wiping any purchases over with disinfectant before putting them away. But I do tend to be a bit paranoid.

Metho + aloe gel + Palmolive soap = hand sanitizer. I got this one from a vet, but there are other recipes on the net.
I bought a litre on Sunday, mostly to clean surfaces with. Perhaps I should have got the 4 litre bottle.....

kay, here you can get aloe gel in the aisle where they have body lotion or itch relief stuff. proportions i saw on another board are 1 cup of whatever your alcohol base is , 1 tablespoon of dish soap , and 2 tablespoons aloe gel.

I was at our local S/M this morning and it is just flippin crazy , there is stuff all fruit and veg left no spuds, onions, and gawd knows what . some items on shelves have a sign saying temp unavailable, no flour, white sugar, no meat , bread. the list just goes on .
The more the govt say to stop pannick buying the more they are going to do it,Why? because no one believes any of the bullshit the Govt. is saying.

More words of wisdom from Old Blue.
Old Blue’s Coronavirus Cure.
I met me mate, Old Blue, today. He said “I’m pretty sure, I’ve stumbled on the ultimate Coronavirus cure. Hearing the dire predictions of the medical advisers I went and bought meself a heap of them there sanitisers. I lined ‘em up in one long row upon the kitchen table, And checked out the ingredients on every flamin label And that was when it came to me – a flash of revelation I’d found a simple answer to this dire situation For never mind the iso-glyco-etha-bloody-nol Every single one of them was based on alcohol It’s plain therefore this virus, thing don’t care about your skin, An unprotected gut is what will let the bugger in. So if you want to save your health and keep your system clear Forget the sanitiser, mate - just have another beer.”
(I've added this to my CS thread, but I thought you might like to have it here too)

Very good, penny 👍
Scott’s a numpty. Now they have limits per person for a lot of hard to find items..there is going to be less hoarding..except for the greedy people who are going from shop to shop still buying up large qty’s overall (two or more people from same household with a trolley each, grrr).
Same here, Carmella, more shelves empty than last week.
People are travelling to smaller towns and clearing out stock there as well.

Lyn posted - Aldi opening up at 9.30am.. working people can’t go there before work now. After work there’s not much left in any of the supermarkets (Woolies, Coles or Aldi).
We are going to Coles at 8am tomorrow.

There is a lot of blame atm on Asians, supposedly buying up all stuff in stores. which is just stupid.
the blame game is just going to create division and trouble

all schools in my state are closed until the next school year begins in august. textron( aircraft factories) has laid off 7000 in my city for a month. rumor has it our mayor tested positive. at least half of the KC city council is in self quarantine. no gatherings of more than 10 ANYWHERE, and no open dining rooms or bars, takeout, drivethru or delivery only. not sure how the grocery stores are handling this yet.

We just counted our stock of TR 76 we haven't bought any since the drama started. I have a cupboard in the garage we use for supplies that are on special. We are heading out into the country for a day trip today. Up to Kendall onto Comboyne and then across to Wauchope. Much nicer than sitting around at home. I hope you all try and enjoy a little bit of something good today If I knew of some oldies who needed TR I would pass on a few.

I just went shopping and got what I needed without any trouble. All the cabinets in the butcher were full with his usual range of products. The bakery had all their shelves full so no bread shortage there. And there was some (not all) pasta in IGA. I think people need to rethink their reliance on the big multinationals and shop locally again. It’s all there. Well, except toilet paper of course 🙄
I did see that Bunnings sell a retrofit bidet toilet seat. That might be a solution 😂. Or we could go back to the olden days regime before disposable nappies, and have reusable cloths (chux would work) and a bucket of nappisan beside the toilet 😂

Qantas is temporarily laying off 20,000 staff here... but the fed Govt is refusing to allow schools to close down www.theaustralian.com.au/nation/politics/catholic-system-scraps-shutdowns-after-pms-call/news-story/adeeae3ca7f7e3b002dd08f519baf38aScott Morrison personally intervened to prevent almost 600 Catholic schools across NSW from closing in an early morning call to Sydney Archbishop Anthony Fisher seeking a guarantee the sector would pull back and keep school gates open. A letter obtained by The Australian from the chief executive of the NSW Association of Independent Schools, Geoff Newcombe, indicated that in a separate conversation with him, the Prime Minister linked federal government funding to his insistence schools remain open. “He reminded me that in this situation there were certain expectations attached to the recurrent funding provided by the Australian Government to Catholic and independent schools. He asked if I would convey this message to schools in our Association, as well as colleagues in other states and territories,’’ Mr Newcombe wrote.
