I'm practically deaf in one ear... so how it came to pass that I heard squeaky whimpers is amazing. A miracle, almost. I heard it for about an hour and every time I came close to pinpointing it, it stopped. I determined it was coming from the washing machine. Another hour later... I found a baby mouse. The noise didn't stop! I found another baby mouse. Still... the squeaking cries... I found the third mouse. I confess I killed the mother the day before. I don't want mice in the house. They chew threw your belongings and wires, they carry viruses. I didn't know she had a litter, I'm not sure it would have mattered (if I didn't see them). Attachments:

I spent the day trying to keep Al, Ger and Non alive. I kept asking myself to what end? Why am I doing this?? Vermin. Tiny cute blind vermin. Non was the squeaker. He was the one who got me to notice and care. Non is the only one who survived these last 24 hours. He is a survivor. Yes, I've lost my mind pretty much because I'm giving hourly care to a mouse. Yes- that's a teaspoon. That is how tiny he is. The other two wouldn't take food at all. He is willing to eat solid food so I don't have to deal with a tiny bottle or tube.

Oh, Dawn, I feel for you. One thing though, if Non survives he won't be vermin, he'll be your little mate for the rest of his life.

Same same. I found Betty Boo, another rodent. Quite injured by my cat but I kept it in the garage for a while and fed it but she didn't last for long.
I can't use a mouse trap. It's more about keeping pantry items in containers.

The little bastige is still alive.
I'm thinking that long term- if he makes it to adulthood (21 days old, he is currently appx 10 days old), I'm going to have to think of something other than a small cardboard box.

Oh Dawn you are a funny but soft hearted mumma. I have my baby Bonnie looking like the handmaiden with her cone surgical collar annoying the hell out of her. She had her operation yesterday.

He seems like a mighty determined little critter Dawn. I am sure he will survive happily in the wild once he is big enough. Of course the drop off zone will need to be about 200K from your home or he might become a perpetual visitor

Looks like a rat with that big head. If its eyes haven't opened yet, it needs milk.

Yes he should be nursing on his mothers milk. He did not like cow milk. He's been eating watered down bread and puppy food. I don't know how he does it. He defies the odds.

LOL
It does kind of remind me of when I found a tiny newly born mouse that the cat dragged in and spat out. I didn't know what to do with the poor little thing, but my dearly departed sister-in-law rolled her eyes at me, picked it up by the tail and flushed it down the toilet.
This thing had no chance anyway. It didn't even have any fur yet and it's eyes were closed.

I did consider the toilet route.
I'm now beyond insane because I just got back from Walmart with bedding and incredibly expensive kitten milk.
He does not want the kitten milk. If I ever go broke I'm gonna get a cat and milk it.

try soaking the bread, or corn flakes, in the milk, he may take it that way. the kittens we've had to eye dropper feed wouldn't drink the expensive stuff either, they liked dry creamer mixed with water, that might work too.

You know those little foam tips on the eyeshadow applicators? Well, if you cut one in half and half again, so you have four tip shaped bits, and put milk on the tip, you can use it like a test. If you can get that tip in mousies mouth and then just drip milk on to it. It wonโt need much at that size.

When I woke up, it looked like he was fading fast. His eyes were closed again, like he was regressing and he didn't move his back legs. He refused to eat. I had to go to work, but I left the heating pad on medium, thinking he's too cold.
I spent hours surmising that he was baking, and that the heating pad caught fire, the house would catch fire... and Lily and Buck would be dead when I got home. And I would be thinking, "All for a stupid mouse".
So I left work earlier than usual to go home and see that everything and everyone is ok.
No baked mouse or dead dogs.
He was more alert than when I left and he seemed happy to have me hold him. Or I'm animorphisizing. Ha.
Or is he really lonely? It has to kinda suck being alone all the time except for feedings.
Anyway, to make a long post longer ๐คฃ... A bit later he became much more lively and willfully went to the feeding dish (a tiny plastic lid- I wish I kept my childhood tea set cuz he would love it).
It occurred to me (duh). He is nocturnal. He thrives in the dark. When I try to interact with him in the daylight hours he's trying to sleep. I'm nocturnal also, but I use darkening curtains and closed doors for daytime sleeping. He's been in natural lighting these last 4 days. I can't believe I helped keep this tiny creature alive for 4 days. ๐ฎ

Here's something most people probably don't know about baby mice... (I'm almost an expert after all the reading I've done lol) They can't ๐ฉ or P on their own until they are 2 weeks or so old. Their mother licks them down there to stimulate the action and then eats the excrementalstuffewwwwgross because it contains nutrients she needs.
So SHE (I'm starting to believe he is a she) tricked me in the beginning (way back when) by going on my hand. This morning, though, and again tonight when I got home... you could see clearly it wasn't coming out. It was more or less like The Battle of Midway. (Note: they don't make tiny enemas).
So here I am with my glasses on, mouse in one hand, qtip in the other. Very stimulating (fascinating Keh ๐).
So now she has it all over herself (it's not hard pellets at this age)- I had to give her a bath in 1/4 cup measuring cup. She squeaked and wasn't pleased. But now she is squeaky clean <~pun.

Now I know that I'm definitely crazy, and I'm okay with that. However, I never realized how cruel most of my real life friends can be. Only one person has been supportive. I understand people/friends commenting on it not being a normal thing to do or that they would never do it... But saying "you should hit it with a shovel" (the worst of what's been said) is downright cruel. ๐ข

She appears to be a common house mouse. She is dark grey with a light grey/white tummy. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_mouseI tried looking for nips but I think I need a magnifying glass and she doesn't like being on her back. But the part in Wikipedia about her hoohah being relatively close to her release valve applies. (That's why I think he is a she). When I was walking the dogs I picked up some acorns and moss to put in her box. I don't know what the long term plan is? I assume at this point she plans on living. I can't imagine putting her in the woods at these current temperatures.
