i tried maple bacon once - blurk! never again! i have to agree, even though i grew up in maple syrup country. i can NOT deal with meat with sweet crap on it. i don't even like fruit wood smoked meat, it's icky.

It certainly is a tough diet and not one I could do. I don't mind leaving out the sugar but roast potatoes and rice are the killer for me. my doc AND curtis's heart doc both told us it's not a healthy diet. and after watching my old boss go carb and sugar free and gain 20 pounds and high BP, not a chance. balance IS the key.

What about the maple bacon though? Does maple count as sugar? I think it's just artificial flavoring, but I ignore that part because it's so dang good!...

lol! i think his biggest problem was wine really. no matter how many of my class lessons i showed him about how much sugar is in red wine, and how alcohol converts to sugar in your body, the man would NOT stop drinking a bottle a night. he also liked vodka( so do i), and it converts to sugar even faster. he had a heart attack not long after he quit, and got put on a super strict diet that DID include the appropriate level of carbs, ended up dropping 50 pounds all told, and is quite healthy now. he's learned the magic word" moderation", so that helps, lol! the funny thing there, his wife is skinny as a rail and eats constantly, along with drinking sweet tea and wine coolers 24/7. she's healthy as all get out, does the "iron woman" marathons with my friend's wife who is 25 years younger, and she usually takes a fairly high place in the totals at 70!
