For those not familiar, we have this bulk store here in the states called Costco where you can buy everything in large quantities at a discount, everything from tools and tvs to groceries.... Their food section is actually pretty amazing...Well, I buy bacon in huge amounts over there because it is well known that it is humanly impossible to consume too much bacon...I've found their name brand, Kirkland bacon, with the thick cut maple flavor is the best stuff ever....it's like a drug it's so addictive. Crack bacon. I'm on the keto diet which is basically high fat low or no carbs and some protein....So basically, no sugar but fat is allowed because by eating fat without the carbs, you encourage the body to burn fat as fuel rather than the easier sugars.......Well, there's a complex science behind it, but basically, bacon is OK to eat all I want.....SO......that sounded like the health plan for me...Sign me up on THAT diet....I buy this stuff by the tonnage...Cows love me for it....Pigs, not so much..  |

Years ago we used to buy maple bacon and it was beautiful. I haven't seen that brand for years but I bought a different one recently (new product) and it was blah.
My son tried to go keto Cy but it didn't work out for him because he loves pasta and carbs too much. We did give it a go with the zucchini noodles and cauli rice but just not the same. I could eat bacon and eggs every day.

It's like the Keto coffee sounds great when you realize you can load up your coffee with whipping cream....( I love whipping cream).....Or you can slather on the butter to your eggs and bacon, but add the smallest amount of sugar, and you've just torpedoed the whole thing...
It's tough to do.....Most people just revert back to a balanced diet containing carbs, after awhile, because carbs are in so much of what we eat....Even a glass of orange juice is a killer on of a keto diet and it's back to square one.....The worst combination for fat gain is something that is not only high fat, but also, high sugar...like fried donuts for example.....And when I was in my 20s, believe me, I used to love those jelly filled donuts with a passion....but they didn't seem to affect my weight much because my metabolism was so different....but now, you wouldn't catch me within 10 miles of a jelly donut...Like crosses to a vampire....LOL...
So the key is.....yes, you can consume fat, but if you're going to go that route, you can't consume carbs WITH the fat, or it won't work, and will, in fact, go the other direction......Also, it's not just what the composition of the food is....In other words, you can't just eat all the fat in the world.....You've still got to make sure that your body is burning more calories in a day than you're taking in....So it's calories, combined with the right type of calories, which means, no calorie intake in the form of sugars...

It certainly is a tough diet and not one I could do. I don't mind leaving out the sugar but roast potatoes and rice are the killer for me.
