What would you call this? I think it’s a coal scoop but that’s not getting me anywhere. I know I should probably be asking on eBay, but ........... well, I can’t be bothered going over there and signing in 🙃

Kay, I googled copper coal scoop and there's some similar one's there.. they used to use scoops like that for scooping grains too.. but smaller scoops

Speaking of ebay, I nearly just spent much more than I realised for something. I thought it was about time I bought the kitchen sink for the dolls house and saw pretty much what I've been waiting for, which is a plain looking Belfast sink. Went to hit buy it now and then thought, hang on, what's the postage. Nearly $30. Damn, that's too much for a miniature but it is in England.

We have a fire that burns compressed sawdust pellets, about the size of licorice bullets. I bought a really nice basket to store the pellets but now realise we need a scoop of some sort to get them into the hopper. So I’m on the search for something like the picture (that doesn’t cost $100+)

What about a flour scoop, or is that too small?

Actually, having done a little research I do believe that is known as an antique English coal shovel, as you first suggested, but it goes together as an accessory with another object, which is a small coal bin known as an antique or vintage English Coal Scuttle.....So it would be the brass or copper English coal scuttle and shovel..
Apparently they came together as a set.....
The price they are asking for it is nothing short of shocking though...
You could probably make a similar shovel on the cheap from a spent brass artillery casing though...

I like the rustic home made looking ones rather than the fancy ones. I should ask our son, the artist/welder/furniture designer and maker, if he’ll make one for me. Why didn’t I think of that earlier?

i somehow didn't think this made the aesthetic cut . (and it would wilt too close to a fire )

take a small metal bucket , cut 1/3 of the circumference of the side off , then cut 7 inches off a broom handle and drill a starter hole at one end .. drill the same size hole in the bottom of the bucket and screw through the bottom into the broom handle off-cut and ''Voila '' you have the ugliest scoop imaginable .
