Where I lived was known for its leafy streets and family homes. Not anymore. The lovely old homes tend to be demolished to make way for subdivision. A few apartment blocks have been popping up, but, thankfully, they aren't skyscrapers. Yet.

Nice to have a view!. I'd need a balcony.. can't imagine being 'home' and not being able to have your own space outside.

The balconies I have been on have a solid barrier..like walls..same colour/finish as the building. I probably wouldn't be keen on a clear glass balcony barrier way up high.

I knew a woman a while ago who was on a posting from Singapore. She hated their house here because it was on the ground. Far too many ants and other crawlies she reckoned. She wanted to be up high out of their reach.

If I mention snakes, bats etc my eldest says..that's why I live in an apartment ๐.
Those older apartment buildings or older buildings turned into apartments are nice deb.

I wouldn't mind a penthouse apartment with a big balcony and a roof garden - but I think 4 storeys would be quite high enough.

that sounds OK for me too, Penny
at one stage, they were blaming the gardens (and water) in the opal tower for the problem
Duffy, does he live in alice street? margaret street? i haven't been in that area for years, but i know there are massive apartment blocks there now

I wouldnโt want to live in a high rise either, I was just pointing out a different way of looking at it. Depends what you are used to I suppose.
btw, some do have open balconies. A friend used to have a unit on the GC on, I think, the 12th or 14th floor. They had balconies on two sides. They could watch one part of the Grand Prix from one side then dash through the unit to see the cars on another part of the course from the other balcony ๐๐๐

Some do Kay, especially on the G/C.
Just thank god the ones they boy has lived/lives in, don't. I would die if he had a balcony.

We stayed on 13th Floor of the Quest apartments in Adelaide the last night we were in SA. It had a wrap around balcony going from the living room to the bedroom.
It was too hot to go out there during the day so I stepped out later in the evening to check out the view. As I stepped out the door, the lights and coast looked amazing but as I walked toward the barrier I felt a bit dizzy, then realised it was glass and it had made me a little disorientated. I had never felt that before so not sure if it was the dark or tiredness.

Maggie, my friend's apartment is also in a converted wool store... the timber inside is just beautiful... her apartment has 3 mezzanine floors, and she put in a roof top garden. She even has an original old timber drying rack on the top mezzanine floor, which she can pull down from the roof to dry her clothes
