Very scary.
I didn't realise the below until I read about it recently.
"Indonesia lies on the Ring of Fire – a major area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean where many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.
Around 90 per cent of the world’s earthquakes take place in this 25,000 mile horseshoe shape.
Frequent earthquakes hit Indonesia due to the meeting of major tectonic plates in the region."

The news seems to have been awfully quiet about it Deb. I can believe it was a lot of people after looking at that video.

I'm a bit shocked Joono.. i read last night that some houses and families had been washed out to sea
But I wasn't expecting the death toll to be that high... there's been very little news on it at all i saw it on twitter last night.
I expect the death toll will rise over the next few days too... the poor people going through all that

Hmm channel 9 news said 380 dead
Channel 7 bulletin said 1000's
Maybe its still too sketchy to tell... will have to wait and see.

I think it's too early to tell. One story said there was a beach festival going on at the time so yes, there's going to be a lot of missing people.

It reminds me of the Bali bombing. When the news first came out it was kind of like, oh, that's not good, and then the story just kept growing. I had no idea it was going to be that bad at first.

Looking at the video clip there are a lot of people still around on the street, in the buildings.... no warnings to be evacuated.
The 2004 one was very bad - 227,898 people in 14 countries, with the majority of victims being killed in the Indonesian city of Banda Aceh.
I remember getting a travel flyer out of the mail box that day.. for Bali.. then turning the news on that night and hearing about the earthquake/tsunami.

The news seems to have been awfully quiet about it Deb. I can believe it was a lot of people after looking at that video. That's what I was thinking...If something like this happened in the US, we'd be talking about it for decades....like 9-11.....We're still talking about the 2011 Japanese tsunami and Fukushima though...(what a cover up that was)...

there are still people alive under the building rubble... I don't see any international experts there helping get them out. We have donated money

we've seriously pissed off mother nature, and she's making it known in a very clear manner. it's a shame that most of humanity isn't listening.

I heard that on the radio this afternoon. The kids have gone back to school but mostly they are helping sort through the rubble. Teachers have been asked to take inventory of their students to see who is missing.
