I haven't tried it yet Pepe but I will probably give it a go when son wants to add more carbs back in as it's lower carbs. I hate this low carb thing. Not that I'm doing it, I still love anything with rice, in fact I'd eat just rice on it's own.

joono, you'd like the soup i made yesterday, lol! beef, rice, potatoes, carrots, peas, corn, kidney beans and lima beans in a thick gravyish beef broth. i'm thawing some homemade bread to go with it, it's too hot to run the oven for cornbread.

has anyone else cooked with this stuff? my daughter asked me to make lasagne for her using it - she is vegetarian and has missed my lasagne.
i make it for her with veges instead of mince but its just not the same apparently
I made her one last time she was home and she loved it so i've just made another for her to take home tonight.
it actually does look like mince when cooking it.

I've never tried it Pepe. It's an idea for a meal for my vegan cousin if he comes back again. I got away with cheeseless pizzas last time.

Joono. The Quorn mince is not suitable for vegans.. (has milk products in it).
So many vegetarian and non vegetarian products may have milk products in them.
Things you wouldn't expect to find milk products in.

i can't eat it because it has mushies in it and i am allergic to them.
its hard to cook and not be able to taste test it - i just have to rely on past experience of making lasagne

Thanks Fig. I always check the packaging when I buy stuff to check whether it is vegan friendly but it's good to know.
Last time when I made the pizzas I only made one with Bio cheese to check it out. It was not good really because it doesn't melt like normal cheese. It just goes plasticky. He did like the "cheese" on it's own though and I gave him a block to take home if he could squeeze it through customs. As a cheese substitute it's really not bad and beats soy cheese hands down. It's made with coconut oil but it doesn't taste like coconut so no good for you Sin.

I've just been to Coles looking at the pastry (packets of 6 sheets)... most of them are now made with margarine .. so vegan friendly. Around $5.50 a pkt. On special for $4. I have used that to make vegan apple pies and it's OK.
The one that was "Butter' Puff Pastry... made with butter only had 3 sheets and was $5.50 That's off, imo.. pastry was always made with butter and you got 6 sheets for around that price.
There's a pastry making evening class at one of the Colleges around here.. might have to go to that. Not that I use pastry a lot, but I'm not going to pay $5.50 if I just want one or 2 sheets.

thanks for the heads up, joono! here in america, too many products just say" tropical oil", i don't take the risk anymore with those. there's one made with palm oil that i can eat, but yeah, it doesn't melt right. it's pretty good for the burritos for my vegan friends, though. the oldest twin's children all suffer severe lactose allergies, she gave me a recipe for a vegan caramel sauce that uses margarine instead of butter or cream, it's really good! figgie, the margarine based pastry freezes quite well uncooked , i just put the sheets between parchment sheets and freeze them on cookie sheets, then tape the sides of the parchment sheets to prevent freezerburn. as long as they thaw in the fridge first, they stay pretty flexible and don't go sticky. DON'T thaw at room temp, they go sticky and won't rise.

I'm making roast pumpkin soup for dinner tonight and recipe says bake for 40 minutes or until pumpkin is golden and tender.
I suppose I only need to aim for tender because my pumpkin already looks golden to me.

I make a lot of pumpkin soup in winter but I have never tried the one where you bake the pumpkin first.
I cook it in the slow cooker now.. don't need to watch it, easier than getting it cooked with an even simmer on the stove.

I've been making pumpkin soup too. Never made it before now, had a heap of pumpkin.
All you need is:
1 packet chicken noodle soup.
Baked Pumpkin.
Onion/garlic
Cumin, Marjoram, black pepper.
Cook onion and garlic in a bit of oil for a few mins. Add Cumin Marjoram and pepper. Add water and chicken noodle soup. Add pumpkin.
Simmer for 1/2, then blend in batches.
Easy, and delicious.

That year I grew pumpkins, I had so many. Most were thrown out. 😢 Never thought to try soup.
I must do something with all those frozen blueberries. It's been three months, they need to be used before they lose their fresh-frozen quality.
I read a recipe in the newspaper (see I keep up lol) for a cobbler that sounded like one I had in a tiny, middle of nowhere restaurant. I had asked them for the recipe and they refused.
I tried to recreate the cobbler several years ago and made dozens of batches from internet recipes until I hated any kind of cobbler.
I clipped the article weeks ago, I bought baking powder tonight... it's 60 degrees outside (15.6 degrees). I think it's cool enough to bake! Yay!

Nope. Because I'm an idiot. That first night I bought the baking powder.
Was raring to go, then saw it needed a fresh lemon. Next day went to buy a lemon.
I was raring to go. Then I realized it needed unsalted butter. Tonight I went out and got the butter.
Now I'm not raring to go and the summer heat came back.

have you thawed the berries yet?

I didn't thaw the berries until I was ready to start. I wish I used more berries. Recipe said 3 cups and it would have been better with 4. Anyway, this cobbler is close to the one I had years ago. The recipe was called Texas Cobbler. Attachment Deleted

Hmmm First it said my pic was too big and now it's so tiny.
The lemon zest didn't make or break this dish.

I have a thing for blue berries....I can't get enough....I buy them by those big frozen sacks and just eat them raw like frozen snacks....I can go through a couple bags like that, no problem....
One thing that's really good is you get this big thing of Mountain High plain yogurt.... and then dump a bag of blue berries in there....and then add a touch of honey....tasting, much sweeter than wine.... and you've got a great meal...Low calories, good for you....Something like that keeps me going for the day... In the winter time, I drink this lemon tea with honey all the time.....Good stuff....
