I tried SCUBA diving for awhile, but then it became a bit of a hassle to get all geared up and go out with a group for the day....Takes so much time and effort...(although some of the experiences diving in Monterey bay were fantastic)..Very mysterious waters out there, where there's an underwater canyon like the Grand Canyon, but lately...I've been thinking I need a hobby...something I can do that's a bit therapeutic...
And one thing that's always been appealing to me for some reason is clay pottery...I don't know why. But, it's like after a day when I get stressed out trading the markets, I'll flip on over and watch a pottery vid....Some guy making a tea pot.....The idea that you've got this plastic material and just mold and form it into a work of art or something useful is interesting to me...As a kid, we had an art teacher that had all these sacks of clay in the back of her little room...And I always wanted to get into those.
Then I saw in African tribal culture that pottery was considered women's work....and I thought....damn, I can't do some girlie stuff....Is pottery just a chick hobby? Should I do it anyway..? I don't know...it just seems like the most relaxing hobby in the world, next to fishing....I think one of the first things I would attempt to create would be a big ol coffee mug and a tea pot...
When this guy gets to making the spout, it looks a bit obscene, so cover your eyes at that part.....(I'm not sure I would go for his spout design here), but doesn't this seem like a therapeutic thing to do?
This guy seems a bit, shall we say....the ghey, BUT.....the way he lives, so stress free...just doing this all day, seems unbelievably relaxing....I almost fell asleep watching this. I like his designs...

I'd be afraid Patrick Swayze's ghost would cuddle up behind me.
Based on where you live, I would go for hiking. Bring a camera. 2 hobbies in one.
Edited: you shouldn't BE a camera. Be a hiker with a camera.

A lot of men where I live have pottery studio's in the home it seems
to be a very relaxing hobby - I think you would enjoy it. You should give
it a go - nothing to lose.

pottery fascinates me but confuses and frustrates me at the same time. they end up with a completely different shape to when they start - i keep thinking they could have got there so much quicker if they had just done it right the first time

I just know I would hate all that muddy mess, especially on my hands so I'd rather watch someone else make pots

Ok here's one for you Cy.
Learn the craft. Become a teacher. Take a leave of absence and return.
Then it will be "Welcome Back, Potter!"
